If you fancy yourself as a Hawker fan…
You’ve got to see this.
As part of the National Heritage Board’s efforts to bring awareness to Singapore’s Hawker Culture, Jocelyn of AiClay (@aiclay), Xinman of Handxmade and Janice of Msparkparkhave teamed up to create a staple that will surely excite all the mini fans out there:
An honest to goodness… miniature hawker centre.
Just for more info (thanks guys for contacting us!):
Jocelyn (@aiclay) is in charge of all the miniature food and the plates and utensils that comes with it. In other words, the fellow who made us hungry #justsaying
Janice (@msparkpark) is in charge of the miniature human figurines and some of the details like the fan for the satay stall uncle, briefcase on chair, etc.
Xinman (@handxmade) is in charge of everything else including the structure, metal furnitures, tables and chairs, and even the chope tissue packets.
Hawker culture
In a bid to secure recognition by UNESCO (please don’t tell me you didn’t know about this), the National Heritage Board has commissioned them to create a mini hawker centre model, which will accompany the ongoing Our SG Hawker Culture Exhibition. And boy…
It looks absolutely amazing.
Just check out these detailed pics that capture all the intricate beauty, in those impossibly small clay figures.
Wonton mee has never look so cute.
Don’t leave your table unattended; got birds!
Does it sound weird that these clay…is making me hungry?
And it seems that their efforts have garnered the attention of local network broadcasters too. Just look at these videos.

WATCH: How long did it take these three artists to create a miniature hawker centre model? Up to 16 hours a day for about one-and-a-half months. The installation will be travelling alongside the ongoing Our SG Hawker Culture Exhibition, which is also part of the effort to gather public support for Singapore’s hawker culture to be recognised by UNESCO.Video: Nuria Ling/TODAYRead more: https://tdy.sg/2Gm9qnT

The original post, which was created by National Heritage Board, has since garnered well over 1.2K likes & reactions, as well as 617 shares. Apart from tagging their friends to share some miniature joy, Netizens were also quick to sing the trio’s praises.
But then again, it’s really not every day that you see such majestic creations, so really I can understand why people will even buy the sculpture.
Unfortunately, just like the resident cat in the Goody Feed office, they’re not for sale.
Exhibition
A wise old man once said:
“A girl might look really chio in pictures, but nothing beats the real thing.”
And indeed, I might not agree with this lecherous wise old man on several occasions, but his words did hit home this one time:
The real thing has gotta be better.
So if you buy into the WOM’s mindset, here’s something cool.
From now till 31 Jan, the ‘Our SG Hawker Culture Travelling Exhibition’ will be going on tour around various Hawker Centres in Singapore.
Which means that you can view the trio’s well-made handiwork right there, in the flesh!
Locations of Exhibition:
- Kampung Admiralty Hawker Centre (17-23 Dec 2018)
- Yuhua Village Market & Food Centre (2-14 Jan 2019)
- Toa Payoh HDB Hub (15-20 Jan 2019)
- Central Public Library (21-31 Jan 2019)
In other words, while you’re reading this, these cuties are in Admiralty.
Also, if you want to contribute your undying cause for our local Hawker Culture, you can always, like the post states, head down to https://www.oursgheritage.sg/support-hawker-culture/ to pledge your support!
So what’re you waiting for?
If you love artsy exhibitions and whatnot, this one’s for you. So if you’re unsatisfied with photos, make sure to attend the specified locations on the particular dates…
In order to get some first-hand pics of that majestic creation!
