Southeast Asia has seen its fair share of exotic food choices ranging from fried insects to Bull Penis Soup.
However, a new kind of dish has recently taken the spotlight.
The food stall, Sattisorru Loke Yew, in Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia, went viral after KL Foodie shared about its Monitor Lizard Claypot Curry Rice.
Yes, you saw that right, we said Monitor Lizard Claypot Curry Rice.
Worth a Try for Foodies
Sattisorru Loke Yew is also famous for its Wok Rice, which is a common south Indian dish.
It is something like claypot rice, but they use curry as a base for its sauce.
To spice up the dish, Sattisorru Loke Yew has incorporated the use of monitor lizards into their dish, leaving many customers stunned.
Lest you’re not aware, this is how a monitor lizard looks like:
Yes, we’re not talking about those lizards you see hiding behind your cupboard. We’re talking about lizards that weigh more than you.
Although it may seem out of the ordinary, many customers have apparently expressed their approval for this unique dish, with some pointing out that it taste like chicken once it is cooked.
So, if you are a foodie, or someone who is adventurous, do give this Monitor Lizard dish a try if you are in KL.
If you are worried about getting hospitalised after eating the dish, don’t worry: the monitor lizards they use are tree lizards, who only consume leaves and fruits, so it should be relatively safe for consumption.
Other Normal Meats
On another note, even if you do not want to try the taste of a monitor lizard, Sattisorru Loke Yew also has a wide array of meat options such as chicken, mutton and prawn to complement the dish.
However, do take note that this store is not Halal certified.
The store is open from 6pm-10pm from Mondays to Saturdays.
