It’s only been over a month into the new year and we’ve already seen three fires in multiple locations. To add to that list, another fire occurred just last night.
Motorcycle Explosion
On Wednesday night, a motorcycle was engulfed in flames in an open carpark next to Block 172 Bishan Street 13. It then exploded with a burst of flames that shot more than 2m high, accompanied by a loud boom.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted to the fire at 10.50pm and subsequently extinguished the flames using a hosereel.
A car parked next to the burning motorcycle was also affected by the fire. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries.
As of now, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
In the Tiktok video, a woman’s scream could be heard after the explosion, supposedly belonging to the owner of the video.
She later uploaded the video to Tiktok with the caption “I just caught a heart attack when the boom came”. We probably would too if we were standing right there.
A taxi could also be seen driving towards the fire, being just metres away when the explosion occurred. Taxi driver must really have some guts.

Tiktok Comments
Despite the severity of the incident, the Tiktok community – known for its often dark humour – took to the event quite hilariously.
One user commented in response to the taxi that drove closer to the fire, “Taxi driver said I need a closer look.”
Another user wrote, “Someone getting a free car in the afterlife.” Good for them, but not so good for the owner.
Others voiced concern about the number of fires occurring so early in the year.
Other Fires in 2022
It is indeed something of concern as the night of 28 January saw fires occur at a Tampines HDB, Bedok coffee shop and Telok Blangah HDB respectively.
The Tampines fire occurred at 10.30pm, with the Bedok fire occurring less than two hours later at 11.50pm.
Early the next morning, a unit at Telok Blangah caught fire at 4.40am, making that night a very heaty one.
Fortunately, the first two fires only saw injuries and no deaths. Unfortunately, the same could not be said about the fire at Telok Blangah, which caused the death of a foreign domestic worker.
With 10 more months of 2022 to go and the pandemic situation still ongoing, we can only cross our fingers and hope that the rest of the year goes by more smoothly.
