A tragic incident occurred yesterday morning (10 July) on the Second Link Bridge between Singapore and Malaysia.
A motorcyclist fell off the bridge and into the waters below at around “Km10” of the bridge, headed towards Singapore.

The District Fire and Rescue Department received the emergency call at 7:17 am.

The motorcyclist could not be spotted when a Rescue Tender vehicle carrying seven firefighters arrived at 7:34 am.
The man’s blue motorcycle had been left at the scene, parked on the road shoulder right next to the bridge’s barrier.
It is still unclear how the man fell off, but an eyewitness claimed that he parked his motorcycle and jumped off the bridge.
As such, they launched a search-and-rescue (SAR) operation at 10:30 am. Firefighters on boats scoured a 60-metre area around the site of the fall. Divers also attempted to find the man under the water.
With nothing found, the search area’s radius expanded to 200 metres at 12:30 pm, yet the man’s body still eluded the rescuers.
Body of Motorcyclist Discovered in Mangrove Roots
At 2:32 pm, over seven hours after the man fell into the sea, fishermen assisting in the SAR discovered him.
According to Oriental Daily, the corpse of the motorcyclist was allegedly found stuck in mangrove roots in a swamp 400 metres from the Forest City Bridge west of Second Link.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and managed to recover the body. They handed the deceased to the police.

The deceased is currently reported to be a 45-year-old Indian man from Pahang who had just renewed his passport days prior.
It remains unconfirmed whether the fall was an accident or a deliberate act by the man.
In the case of the former, the Second Link Bridge is no stranger to fatal accidents.
