The Secret Life of Pets 2

The highly-anticipated sequel to the 2016 viral hit, The Secret Life of Pets 2 takes place after events from the first one and continues the misadventures of Max, Snowball and the rest of the gang.

The synopsis for The Secret Life of Pets 2 lies as follows:

“Max the terrier must cope with some major life changes when his owner gets married and has a baby. When the family takes a trip to the countryside, nervous Max has numerous run-ins with canine-intolerant cows, hostile foxes and a scary turkey. Luckily for Max, he soon catches a break when he meets Rooster, a gruff farm dog who tries to cure the lovable pooch of his neuroses.”

Directed by Chris Renaud, the 1 h 26 min long Adventure/Comedy film is produced by Illumination (Despicable Me, Bolt) and is set against a budget of 80 million USD.

Movie Review

Right, how do I describe the film in one word?

Hmm…

Mmm…

Entertaining.

Yes, that’s the word. Entertaining. Whether it’s the hilarious Snowball, lovelorn Gidget or even the strict Rooster, the film’s entertaining. To no end.

But of course, that’s hardly unexpected, considering how the film’s produced by the same company that did Despicable Me and Minions.

The movie itself does not concentrate on a single plot. Or at least from the start. What happens is that the movie lets each character get away with their own thing, and then bring them all together for the finale.

A rather fitting move, with all things considered.

Also, if you found yourself thinking something along the lines of:

“This movie’s surely catered to kids. What am I, an adult human, gonna do in the cinema? Laugh at lame gimmicks like the 5-year-old next to me?”

Well, you might be in for a surprise. Not gonna spoil anything, but I’m just going out on a limb to say that the movie has a really great message for every movie-goer, though by my reckoning only those going through adulthood will truly understand the complexity of it.

A rather astounding move for me, too, but nonetheless one I really appreciate.

And so… is it worth the watch?

For one, I would say yes, it’s worth the watch.

Whether you’re a fan of the first one or are looking for a good cartoon to bring the family to, The Secret Life of Pets 2 should do just fine for all your movie-going needs.

Also, do hang around for a bit after the movie ends, because there’s a sweet surprise in tow for you guys.

Trust me; it’s good.

Final score: 4/5
