When transport minister Khaw announced that MRT operations will regain reliability in 2019…
Optimistic people be like…
And the pessimistic ones are like…
So a group of people decided to get together and set up a Facebook page.
They called it TATA SMRT
Which stands for The Alternate Transport Advisory & Singapore Magnificient Rescue Team.
And their aim? To reduce the inconvenience of SMRT breakdowns for Singapore residents.
One reason why Singaporeans are always disrupted by MRT breakdowns is due to the fact that breakdown information isn’t disseminated in time for people.
So with no time to plan, what happens? Late for 2 hours to work for the less desperate ones and $100+ Uber fares for the really desperate people.
Less desperate people get into office a couple of hours late. And $100+ Uber fares for the really desperate people who needed to get somewhere right now.
The group wants to help Singaporeans plan alternate routes as part of their contingency plans.
Just to clarify, it’s not when the breakdown happens.
You can always be a kiasu Singaporean and ask your questions on the page and it will be answered by kind strangers on the internet.
You know, better be safe than sorry. Because you know that someday, sometime, you’ll kena MRT breakdown.
They are also looking to help during times of train disruptions
One way is by crowdsourcing real-time information about affected areas. You know, just like how radio programmes in the morning operate?
Listeners will sometimes call in to the radio station and tell the deejay about an accident or congestion on the roads.
The Facebook page is looking to create such synergy between members too.
They’re also looking to get together a group of volunteer drivers who are willing to pick up stranded commuters on their way to their destinations.
That’s where the Singapore Magnificient Rescue Squad came about.
Â
And most importantly, for members to encourage each other during times of breakdown
Basically, give each other a sign of light at the end of the tunnel.
At least their light isn’t two years away lah.
Currently, the public group has just 745 members but I’ll be honest, this is a resource that’s going to be super helpful to many Singaporeans out there.
Just make sure you’re not the toxic kind because they don’t welcome you there. #JustSaying
I’m not sure about you but this is what I’m feeling right now.
I love you guys, I really do.
