Once again, Airbnb makes the news and no, it doesn’t involve hidden cameras in the apartment this time.
It is every host’s nightmare—the apartment gets rekt.
And that nightmare was a reality for an Airbnb host.
What happened
The said Airbnb host’s name is Simon Landsheer and he took his plight to Facebook when he rented out his apartment in M City along Jalan Ampang.
Garnering 3.3k shares and 1.3k comments as of writing time, the post showed how badly the apartment was damaged by a guest.
If you can’t see the image:
Lesson learned. Airbnb is useless for their hosts when it really matters. Our apartment is completely trashed by a guest and Airbnb is doing NOTHING but hiding behind its shitty procedures.
I’m waiting for escalation since last Saturday morning. Tens of thousands of Malaysian Ringgit dollars in damage and they are nowhere to be found.
I’ve sent them pictures of the whole situation including all traces of drugs the customer they endorsed consumed. They don’t care.
If you care about your property don’t rent it out trough them because they certainly don’t care about you!
You know the saying, a picture is worth a thousand words, so let the pictures do the talking.
The kitchen was an utter mess.
The bedroom was even worse, there were a bunch of knickknacks strewn all over the bed and questionable stains on the bed sheet.
The guest must have been a very curious chap as there were numerous battery-operated devices cut open.
And this dubious-looking pipe raises a lot of questions.
That is not all…
The electrical bill has got to be the icing on the cake.
Summing up to almost RM2K ($659) over a span of six weeks!
Maybe he needed all the lights since he started taking out all the batteries from the said devices.
FYI, the guest refused to pay the bill.
Who is the guest?
According to World of Buzz, the guest in question goes by the name of Mohammed who is from Saudi Arabia.
The said host was kind enough to attach Mohammed’s Airbnb profile on his FB rant.
There were reviews left by other hosts and they had less than nice things to say about him—to the effect that he trashed their apartments as well.
Thoughts
Simon said in an interview: It was a brand new place in mint condition, and it’s not older than one year. He has also submitted the cost of repair to Airbnb in hopes that he will be compensated.
For his sake, I really hope he gets some sort of compensation.
