You’ve seen the Nasi Lemak ice cream, but are you ready for more Nasi Lemak?
Laksania is not the only place trying to turn everything into a specific dish, as a caterer in Kuala Lumpur, Tiana Kitchen, released a Nasi Lemak cake last year.

They didn’t just stop at flavouring a cake, like some plebeian who knew naught about culinary innovation. They went all the way, choosing to make the entire cake straight out of nasi lemak itself. I’m talking rice instead of actual cake, with ikan bilis, sambal and cucumbers as the toppings.

Yeah, everything you’re seeing is the real thing.
According to their official Facebook page, it’s “Aromatic rice infused with coconut milk and pandan leaves”.

The toppings are entirely customizable as well, just like how you can add stuff to your plate of nasi lemak, and I suppose exactly like a cake as well. Huh.
You get to choose from a selection of standard nasi lemak fare, including sambal sotong, sambal prawn and sambal petai (bitter bean).
Unfortunately, as the caterer is situated in KL, they only provide delivery to the local residents. Sucks to be you if you live in SG and really want to try this. Or, you know, you could just drive to KL.
Currently, public response has been overwhelmingly good, with some outliers (“purists”. Bah.) claiming that nasi lemak should be eaten the normal way. You, sir, are standing in the way of progress.
Nasi Lemak cakes are the future. Hopefully, they’ll be available in Singapore soon.
