Picture this: you just finished your last paper, and in a fit of jubilance pumped your fists into the air and cried:

“I’ve done it. I’ve finally done it. I’m now a Uni graduate, and that means no more studying!”

Tears flowing, you succumb to the cold hard ground of the exam hall as wave after wave of equally ecstatic students surrounds and salute you.

“Congratulations, insertyournamehereYou’ve finally done it!”

At that point, your crush leaps and jumps on top of you.

“You’ve got a degree now. I’m so in love with you!” your crush said happily.

Dazed, you gingerly lift a hand and prepare to pat their head.

“M’sian Beauty Queen Breaks Record After Graduating With A Fifth Degree,” your crush suddenly says.

“W-What?”

“M’sian Beauty Queen Breaks Record After Graduating With A Fifth Degree,” the students around you chant.

“What… isn’t it supposed to be about me?”

“M’sian Beauty Queen Breaks Record After Graduating With A Fifth Degree,” your mum says sternly.

“Where did you even come from, Mum?”

“What’re you waiting for? Get me my other four degrees NOW!”

You wake up, your entire forehead bathed in cold sweat.

“A-A dream..?” you splutter.

You look down; you’ve pissed your pants.

“Well, talk about spoiling the market,” you grumble, as you go back to sleep.

M’sian Beauty Queen Breaks Record After Graduating With A Fifth Degree

The introductory paragraph might be nothing short of nonsensical, but the gist is certainly there:

A Malaysian beauty queen has attained her fifth academic scroll, and in the process entered the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR)… yet again.

For those unaware, the former Miss World Malaysia 2008 actually earned herself her first MBOR entry, for being the first titleholder to be awarded a PhD back in 2016.

And now, having recently graduated from the Berklee College of Music Valencia Campus, Soo is now the record holder for Most Academic Degrees Achieved By A Beauty Queen as well as Most Academic Degrees Achieved By A Recording Artist.

Talk about achievements.

Incidentally, Soo also shared some fresh updates about her life and career, including graduation pictures from the Berklee College of Music Valencia in Spain and news of a brand new single.

Beauty, brains and a voice to match? Are you kidding me right now?

15 years

According to the beauty queen’s Instagram posts, her academic journey has spanned a total of 15 years, during which she has obtained:

  • A Law Degree at the University of Reading, United Kingdom (2007)
  • A Master of Business Administration at the University of Sunshine Coast, Australia (2008)
  • A PhD in Business at Open University Malaysia (2016)
  • A Master in Music at Berklee College of Music Valencia, Spain (2018)
  • A Post-Master Degree Fellowship at Berklee College of Music Valencia, Spain (2019)

“Today, (I) managed to graduate for the 5th time in my life and will be launching my own produced and composed hybrid single in four languages (English, Malay, Chinese and Spanish) titled ‘Cut Away’ with my Taiwan and China record labels and publishing company, which is Ocean Butterflies, Taihe Group & Touch Music (sic),” she said on her Instagram.

And it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon

According to the Malay Mail, the past two years have not been easy for the 33-year-old. She had confessed to facing several personal challenges while she was completing her post-master’s fellowship in live music production in Spain.

“There were times when I felt like giving up because there were too many problems to endure but I knew that whatever I was studying, I had to see it through to the end.”

“Don’t be afraid to fall and always learn to rise again even though it might not be easy, especially if you are away from your home country,” she told mStar.

And well, it seems that her academic journey has only just begun, as the 33-year-old plans to pursue a second PhD in artistic production at another Spanish University this September.

So yes, that will take the grand to total to 6.

And I haven’t even completed one yet.

Well, time to buck up before I wet my pants then.
