Dedication.

Not all of us have it.

But the ones who do are remarkable human beings.

One class of law students demonstrated this when they continued to finish their exams in the dark when there was a blackout.

Lights out

Mohd Ilhamy Mohd Nahzeri, 22, recently posted a picture on Twitter of law students from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) taking their midterm exam.

I know what you’re thinking – Can use phone in exam meh?

You see, dear reader, the law students, including Nahzeri, were in the middle of their exam when the lights went off.

In an interview with mStar, Nahzeri explained that the lights turned on and off three times while they were doing their law paper. So, they had to use the torchlights on their phones.

“Everyone was ok at first, but when it occurred the third time, everyone started to take out their phones and turned on their torches. You could hear a few mumble for a short while, but we shifted gears soon after. The hall became quiet once more. No one was making any noise. Because it’s a law exam you see, we had to answer in essays. So everyone simply doesn’t want to waste time because we want to finish on time”, he said.

Now, if you’re a corrupt human being like me, you’re probably thinking can cheat liao! Many netizens had the same idea:

Translation from World of Buzz – “You can’t simply hold it, why don’t you Google the answer as well?”

You can WhatsApp your friend and discuss the answers.

When the light’s off, memorize your friend’s answers. When the lights are back again, write it down.

But we’re forgetting the fact that there are honourable and morally upright people out there.

Oh yes, there are.

Two students even shared a phone’s torchlight because one of them had left their phone at home. I wonder how that fellow can survive without a phone #justsaying

Nahzeri later explained why cheating is ultimately damaging, even if you manage to get away with it:

“I’d like to remind the students out there that even if you managed to get high scores from cheating, you won’t feel the same joy as answering with your own effort. It will be redundant to have a degree but you don’t understand what you have learned, it’s your loss. If you cant practice to follow the rules now, how are you going to work as a lawyer later.”

Some lawyers cheat others and get paid to do it too, so it’s heartening to see a group of potential lawyers display such honesty and integrity.
