Nas Daily Did Advertisement For NTUC Income; S’poreans Still Salty

Nas Daily is many things: committed, humorous and impossibly entertaining. But above all, he might be best known as that dude who quit a cushy, lucrative tech job that shelled out some $120K per year, for an around-the-world-vlogging experience.

But somehow, some way, he made it.

He now boasts millions of followers on Facebook, who are all keen to see his daily one-minute adventures around the world.

Canada's Crazy Library.

Imagine a library that has free Sushi making classes? How about shoe making? Puppet shows, Sherlock Holmes Rooms, 3D Printers, and what's even crazier…A service to read your kids a bed time story over the phone. It's a Bed Time Story Hotline in like…16 different languages! This is how Canada (Toronto Public Library) built a massive system of libraries that is as relevant today as ever. As more and more libraries die…the world can learn a thing or two from Canada's Libraries. INSTAGRAM: @NasDailyGROUP: Nas Daily Global

Successful? Successful.

Yet as accomplished as Nas (real name Nuseir Yassin) is, there’s one thing he cannot do. And at the risk of alienating every single Nas Daily fan out there, he actually sucks at…

Making Singaporeans happy.

That’s right; lest you’re unaware, Nas actually did a video (he did tons of videos on Singapore actually) on the lion city a few weeks back, in the process situating Singapore under a pretty flattering light.

And while the normal reaction would be to cheer for our own country (because of patriotism and all that propaganda- I mean racial harmony thing), a percentage of Singaporeans reacted otherwise, denouncing the video as a sham and accusing the vlogger of doing a subtle, not so subtle paid advertisement for the country. Which would turn out not to be true, but you know how Singaporeans are. Liar, liar, pants on fire.

After that video, Nas left the country to continue his quest for the One Piece, and local Nas Daily fans thought that it was the end of an almost magical adventure akin to that of the ol’ Sang Nila Utama.

Until this.

Yes, your Israel Sang Nila Utama is back.

And this time, it’s a 100% sponsored video.

Ft. resident giants NTUC Income (drop that beat)

In a Facebook video posted by NTUC Income on 8 Oct, Nas actively encourages Singaporeans to drop that retirement plan.

And if you’re expecting some Nas magic, you won’t be disappointed. The vlogger phrased things in his usual straightforward style, even laying down some pretty numbers that in all honesty, kinda tugged at my heartstrings. Just a bit.

Here, you can watch the video down below:

Grass is green; sky is blue; Singaporeans’ comments bordeline rude

And yes, people. After the NTUC Income video came out, Singaporeans flocked to it in droves. With over 25K views and 300 shares so far, one could actually consider it a successful marketing gimmick on NTUC Income’s part, although you don’t really expect otherwise seeing how it’s helmed by the charismatic Nas himself.

But while some reacted positively, there were also some with, for lack of a better phrase, rotten tomato level feedback.

And some countered RevoRetire’s supposed gains.

Although if there was any positive outcome, it would be that the video became the tool that brought a group of friends back together.

But judging by the response, it seems that even the video has failed in that aspect.

Crazy Rich Asians

If you’ve watched the movie, you would know that Michelle Yeoh’s character, the near-tyrannical mother of the charismatic Nick Young, isn’t exactly the best potential mother-in-law around.

Image: theLight

Venomous and harsh, she’s the very personification of the classic Korean drama mother-in-law. Which might be what the author was going for right from the start, so kudos to him because he definitely got that right.

Here’s the thing though. Many Singaporeans, you included, might have watched the movie and hated her character for how she treated the lead actress, but you can’t help but wonder.

How do these Netizens actually differ from her?

(Article continues below) Xing Xing is a 34-year-old Singaporean lady who decides to meet up with an online friend she found in Facebook. But it turns out that he’s not what he seems to be: Prepare boxes of tissue and watch the saddest Singapore Facebook love story here:

Nitpicky and seemingly never satisfied, these Netizens are straight-up walking versions of Michelle Yeoh’s character, although if there’s one key difference.

I doubt they’ll actually emulate the change she went through in the last scene.

Anyway, that’s two minutes, and I’ll see you tomorrow.

Peace.
