Before the 10-million population saga, GE2020 and the minimum wage issue, another issue had popped up during Covid-19.
The NDP funpacks.
Every year, NDP funpacks are given to participants and people who attended the NDP parade and rehearsals but this year, it’s a little different.
Meant to bring everyone’s spirits up a bit, the NDP organisers decided to give every household in Singapore NDP funpacks.
Unfortunately, not everyone appreciated the gesture.
Petitions were signed and people said they don’t want the funpack. Some felt it was a waste of money, which could be put to better use (say, financial assistance against Covid-19) while others felt it’s bad for the environment.
The NDP organisers say they’ll explore the “opt-out” option and eventually decided not everyone will get them.
Well, there’s now been an update on the NDP funpack.
Everything About NDP2020 Funpack, Which People Now Want ‘Coz There Are Masks
First thing first, what’s in the funpack?
According to ndp.gov.sg, the funpack will contain several items:
- Handheld flag
- Face tattoo
- Red Filter for phone torch
- A snack and a canned drink
- A state flag
- An iron-on flag
- “Our Heart For Singapore” Card
- A Singapore Together commemorative magnet
- Face Mask
- A thermometer
- and a bottle of hand sanitizer
I’ll be honest, the last 3 items will make everybody want a funpack for themselves.
Alleged Photo Of Funpack Content Goes Viral:
Facebook user, Eugene NT Tan, took to the social media platform to share a photo of the funpack’s contents, laid out in Tekong-style:
The photo is yet to be verified but it seems awfully similar to what the NDP organisers are showing on their website.
If the image is accurate, this means that every household is going to get an additional 4 face masks, 2 mini bottles of hand sanitisers and a thermometer.
However, for those who came across photos of these reusable masks:
It was confirmed that they are not part of the NDP 2020 funpack.
Collection Starts From 20 Jul 2020
Eager to get your hands on a funpack of your own?
Collection of the funpacks starts on 20 Jul 2020 and will run all the way to 2 Aug 2020 (for community centres) or 26 Jul 2020 (for residents’ corners).
You can check where to collect the funpacks by inputting your postal code in this website.
Collection hours are from 10am to 6pm daily, excluding public holidays.
Each household is entitled to one funpack and you have to show your NRIC to redeem.
According to the NDP website, everyone will get it as long as they’re a Singaporean or PR household here.
However, the organisers have decided that they will only produce enough to give 80% of the households in Singapore after petitions were signed.
Here are other things you can look forward to in the funpack:
Enjoy Local Artwork
To make the entire occasion even more meaningful, the pack will also contain artwork from local Singaporeans with disabilities
As well as primary five students.
In total, there will be 20 artworks and designs in the pack which you can admire while in your own home.
Interested in more than just artwork? The official NDP portal also has the artists’ brief stories as well, which you can read here and here.
An E-Booklet Of “Don’t Say Bojio” Deals
What’s the one thing that Singaporeans love the most?
Deals. As many as you can give, right?
And that’s exactly what you’re going to get with the NDP funpacks.
In previous years, there is always a discount booklet in the NDP funpacks that has plenty of deals for people (who are lucky enough to get a funpack for themselves) to enjoy.
This year, you’re going to get it too, except it’ll be in electronic form.
The funpack will give you access to an electronic booklet of discounts which is contributed by local businesses.
As previously mentioned, NDP this year is going to be different due to Covid-19.
You can check out the NDP website for a sneak preview on what’s going to happen on this iconic day.
Besides the new National Day song, that is.
