A 70-year-old man is considering selling his flat after being disturbed by his neighbour’s strange behaviours, which include washing the floor up to 10 times daily with a “homemade water mixture” and making noises at night that disrupts his sleep and peace of mind.
Years of Disturbance Led to Thoughts of Moving
Mr. Wang (name transliterated from Mandarin), who lives at Block 206 Marsiling Drive, told Shin Min Daily News that he moved into his flat five years ago without noticing any issues during the property viewing.
Problems only surfaced after he moved in, gradually worsening over time.

His neighbour, who is in his 70s, was initially friendly and would greet him when they crossed paths in the corridor.
“After his wife passed away two years ago, he started accusing me of ‘casting spells’,” Mr. Wang said, shaking his head in disbelief.
According to Mr. Wang, his neighbor washes the floor up to 10 times daily and strikes a Buddhist bowl every night, creating a persistent noise problem that has made normal living conditions impossible.
“He strikes the Buddhist bowl for about five minutes in the middle of the night. I’ve called the police several times, but nothing can be done. Complaints to the authorities have also been useless. Additionally, his son who lives with him doesn’t intervene,” Mr. Wang added, clearly frustrated by the lack of resolution.
Chemical Mixture Causing Property Damage
The neighbour allegedly uses water mixed with chemicals, including vinegar, for floor washing. This creates a foul smell that permeates the entire floor and has damaged the concrete surface due to years of corrosion from the acidic mixture.
Mr. Wang mentioned that authorities arranged for mediation last year, but his neighbour refused to attend the session.
“I’ve been so troubled that after the five-year minimum occupation period, I started looking for buyers through an agent. Four groups of potential buyers have visited, but after seeing the uncle’s behaviour, they never followed up,” he explained.
He originally wanted to leave the flat for his descendants, but now feels he has no choice but to sell it, even though the property’s value has likely decreased due to the ongoing situation.

Uncle Claims He’s Just “Warding Off Evil Spirits”
Mr. Wen (name transliterated from Mandarin), 78, the neighbour in question, admitted that he washes the floor daily because he feels the surrounding area is “unclean” and harbours negative energy.
He explained that his homemade “evil-warding water” contains vinegar and star anise,
Mr. Wen claims he is only “warding off evil spirits” and has no intention of disturbing his neighbours.
