I love eating onions, but I hate cutting them as it makes my eyes sting and I’d end up tearing. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one facing this problem.

Why Do Onions Make You Tear?
According to the Library of Congress, onion produces a chemical irritant called syn-propanethial-S-oxide which triggers your eye tear glands.
This is why you tear whenever you chop onions.
And apparently, it does the same for cats, not just humans.
Cat Cried While Owner Was Chopping Onions
On 7 September 2019, a Twitter user by the name Deana Adziz shared photos of her cat tearing on twitter.
We hope the poor kitty isn’t in pain, but this picture just screams cuteness!
In her tweet she wrote:
“Was cutting onions when I realised someone beside me was crying”
She had even apologized for the blur photo as she was laughing.
Let’s just say that it’s karma for cats, because they seem to be laughing at us for everything we do.

Deana had shared that the tweet made a lot of people laugh, so she decided to start a meme thread of her cat called #memetchallenge.
As the tweet went viral with 24.6k retweets and 19k likes, many people have shared that their cats also cry when exposed to evil onions.
Deana had also clarified that she wasn’t bullying her cat and has rewarded her cats with treats as an apology.
