It appears that everything’s going integrated in the town of Bedok.

Back in 2018, Heartbeat @ Bedok, an integrated community hub which takes up the space equivalent of around three football fields, opened its doors to the public.

Equipped with a sports centre, public library, community club, polyclinic and senior care centre all under one roof, the integrated space also boasts more than 30 retailers.

It was hailed as a concept which employs efficient use of land, and doubles as a platform for joint-agency programmes.

And now, news has broken out that in the year 2030, Bedok will see yet another Integrated establishment:

This time, it’s one that caters to the physical and mental well-being of residents.

Everything About the New Integrated Hospital That’ll Open in Bedok in 2030

A new integrated hospital is set to be opened in Bedok North around 2030.

The establishment will incorporate the functions of both a general hospital and a community hospital. The general side will offer emergency services, inpatient and specialist outpatient services, while the community side will provide services such as rehabilitation and sub-acute care to support newly-discharged patients from the general hospital.

The revelation was veiled by none other than Health Minister Gan Kim Yong on Friday (13 November). He added that the new hospital will be run by SingHealth, and will be situated right next to Bedok North MRT station.

Thus far, pre-existing plans for the hospitals have yet to be set. Apparently, the community in the area will be consulted to co-create ideas on how the new hospital can better serve their needs.

According to Channel News Asiathe plan to create an integrated hospital in the East was first announced in March 2020, amidst the Committee of Supply debate.

Increasing Demand For Healthcare

According to Mr Gan, demand for healthcare will only increase, as the nation struggles with population growth and ageing issues.

“Even as we battle the COVID-19 pandemic, we also need to continue to focus on our longer term healthcare needs,” said Mr Gan.

“That is why we are continuing with our capacity building programme to ensure there is sufficient excess capacity to meet the needs of our patients, going forward.”

As such, the present 10 public acute hospitals and nine community hospitals in the nation are expected to grow to 12 public acute and 12 community hospitals by 2030.

Aside from the new integrated hospital, the Woodlands Health Campus and TTSH Integrated Care Hub at Novena will form the other 3 community hospitals.
