Everything About the New KPE & TPE Link That’ll Hopefully Ease the Crazy Morning Traffic in Punggol

If you’re a Punggol resident who often uses the Tampines Expressway (TPE) and Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) every morning, you might have lost all your hair.

Not because of male or female pattern baldness, but because the most rational thing to do in response to the crazy traffic jams is to literally pull your hair out.

Typically, traffic in these areas is slower than Donald Trump is to admit defeat, and at a time when life is already full of anxiety and distress, traffic congestion can send you over the edge.

Thankfully, the authorities are doing something about this.

Everything About the New KPE & TPE Link That’ll Hopefully Ease the Crazy Morning Traffic in Punggol

After 5 years of construction, the final link of the KPE/TPE interchange with Punggol and Pasir Ris has finally been completed.

The completion of this long project was announced by Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean in a Facebook post on Monday (9 Nov).

The project took five years because it involved construction of vehicular bridges, flyovers, slip roads, piled roadway, and drainage works, according to Land Transport Authority (LTA).

But it was still ahead of schedule.

LTA projected that the project would be completed in June 2021, but fortunately for Punggol residents, it’s come 7 months earlier.

Smoother Traffic Flow

The new slip road from KPE – Exit 9C – will lead directly to the TPE.

According to LTA, the link was built in order to improve traffic flow along the TPE between Punggol Way and KPE, and at access points into Punggol Town.

The new link will also meet future traffic demands from developments in the area.

Previous Extensions

Because this area is so prone to congestion, several extensions have been made in the past.

Last November, a new road to TPE (SLE) was built to offer motorists an additional route between Pasir Ris and Punggol.

And in 2018, an extension was constructed from Punggol Centre Road to Halus link, which then connects to the KPE (ECP) and to the TPE (Changi), according to ST.

In his post, Senior Minister Teo thanked the hardworking personnel involved in the 5-year-long project.

“Many thanks to our LTA engineers, the contractors and workers for completing the project ahead of schedule and safely,” he said.
The enhanced connectivity will certainly ease traffic jams, especially during peak hours.
Punggol residents can now rest easy, knowing they’ll soon get all their hair back.
