Everything About the New Pasir Ris East MRT Station That’ll Be Ready in 2030

With six MRT lines and over 130 MRT stations across the island, Singapore is only becoming increasingly well-connected. It is no doubt that other countries are in awe of our country’s transportation.

But wait, have you heard of the new line that is set to be opened in 2030? Currently being constructed in the Cross Island Line (CRL). Here is everything you need to know about the new Pasir Ris East MRT station that is soon to be ready.

Construction Starting in Second Quarter

On Monday, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said construction works for Pasir Ris East MRT station on the CRL are expected to start in the second quarter of this year.

Passenger service at the station is projected to start in 2030.

Huh, so long ah?

Unfortunately, yes. However, the eight-year wait is most definitely worth it. Travel time from Pasir Ris East Station to Ang Mo Kio will be reduced by more than half an hour. The journey that currently takes 60 minutes will only take a whopping 25 minutes on the CRL! Say goodbye to slow red-line train rides that never seem to end.

Furthermore, passengers going from Pasir Ris East station to Bright Hill will shave 50 minutes off their journey, with travel time cut from the current 80 minutes to about 30 minutes.

If you are curious about the location of the new station, here is a map to show just where it is.

Construction Work

The contract for the design and construction of Pasir Ris East station was awarded to Singapore Engineering & Construction and Sinohydro in a joint venture for S$363 million, said LTA.

Singapore Engineering & Construction previously worked on the construction of Tai Seng Facility Building which serves the Downtown Line and the widening of Keppel Viaduct.

Sinohydro, a hydropower engineering and construction company, is currently constructing Napier and Marina South stations for the Thomson-East Coast Line.

“To mitigate the impact to residents and motorists, staggered stages of traffic and utilities diversions will have to be implemented to facilitate the construction works,” LTA said.

Rest assured Pasir Ris residents, as safety measures will be taken when carrying out earth retaining and stabilising structure and excavation works to ensure stability of the ground and surrounding structures. The works are expected to be approximately 25m deep,

“LTA and the contractor will closely monitor the works to ensure that they are carried out safely with minimal impact to the nearby stakeholders,” LTA added.

Being the eighth MRT line, the CRL will serve existing and future developments in the eastern, north-eastern and western corridors, linking major hubs such as Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and Changi region.

The first phase of CRL (CRL1) is 29km long and comprises 12 stations from Aviation Park to Bright Hill. This will serve residential and industrial areas in Loyang, Tampines, Pasir Ris, Defu, Hougang, Serangoon North and Ang Mo Kio and benefit more than 100,000 households.
