The long-awaited/dreaded event is arriving.
The Parliament has been dissolved. The die has been cast. The new season of House of Cards is here.
General Elections 2020 is coming.
Singapore’s political parties are pulling out all the stops to win the upcoming elections.
Worker’s Party (WP), the long-standing rival of the People’s Action Party (PAP), has unveiled their secret weapon.
Golden Girl Nicole Seah
Yesterday (23 June), WP had uploaded a video on Facebook simply titled “GE2020: Coming Soon”.
It showed off the fresh faces of their members in an epic montage akin to that of an Avengers teaser trailer.
Amongst those fresh faces unveiled their golden girl Nicole Seah.
For those that don’t remember, she was the shining star of the 2011 General Elections where she represented the National Solidarity Party (NSP) who was wildly compared with then another young candidate, Tin Pei Ling.
She rode in on a wave of popularity where she actually managed to garner a whopping 43.4% of the votes in her division against PAP.
Then, Mr Goh Chok Tong who was leading the PAP team in Marine Parade GRC said that Seah was a major factor in NSP garnering more votes in the division.
You may watch one of her rally speeches here:
Her youthful fresh face was a huge source of popularity as back then, she was at the tender age of 24 years old.
That’s younger than I am currently. What am I doing with my life?
However, she had left NSP in 2014 and she fell off the radar of most people.

So, where has she been and what has she been up to?
She was sorely missed during GE2015 as she had moved to Thailand to work in an advertising firm.
On top of that, she had decided to prioritise her love life while keeping many details to herself.
For example, she stealthily tied the knot with her then-boyfriend in a low-key wedding in August 2015.
Wait, why do I hear some people crying?
After focusing on her private life and basically staying off the political scene for nine years, it seems that she’s ready to return and take the stage by storm.
Also, like a true star, she had reportedly been teasing her comeback as early as 2017 by walking the ground with WP.
With WP already a strong contestant against the PAP, we may see WP take more electoral divisions this year.
If you already can’t wait cast a vote, you may read up here for more information on Nomination Day and Polling Day.

It’s unknown where she would be contesting, but according to sources that told The Straits Times, Workers’ Party might be contesting in Aljunied, East Coast, Marine Parade group representation constituencies, Hougang single-member constituency, as well as the new Sengkang GRC.
Tin Pei Ling is now in MacPherson Single Member Constituency, so we might not see a rematch of Nicole vs Pei Ling after all.
But who knows. This is the GE. Anything can happen. You’ll know on Nomination Day, which takes place on 30 June 2020.
