On Sunday (2 March), many Singaporeans were shocked upon seeing dashcam footage circulating online of a dark blue Porsche bursting into flames at Nicoll Highway.

As it turns out, at around 2:10 pm, the dark blue Porsche 911 Carrera had been speeding down Nicoll Highway on the rightmost lane before swerving to the left towards the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) entrance.

At the KPE entrance, the Porsche unfortunately hit a road divider, causing it to flip onto its left side, skidding into a few cars before bursting into flames.

The driver was unfortunately killed in the crash, having been found by SCDF firefighters in the charred wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the fire might have been caused by the Porsche’s oil pipe rupturing. After all, the Porsche had skidded into other vehicle, which could have caused fuel to leak, causing the car to burst into flames.

Fortunately, there weren’t other innocent lives taken as a result of the crash. SCDF officers assessed seven people from other vehicles involved in the accident. However, most of them declined to go to the hospital — only two men, aged 53 and 66, were taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Investigations into the crash are currently ongoing.

The company’s meat products, however, aren’t the only thing bearing the name of Chee Song Foods. The Land Transport Authority (LTA)’s records also show that the Porsche driven by Mr Loh in the fatal crash was registered under the company, Chee Song Foods.

Mr Loh had driven the Porsche to meetings with his business associates. Two or three years ago, before Mr Loh started driving the Porsche, he apparently drove a BMW.

Prior to entering the working world, Mr Loh reportedly studied banking and finance at the Singapore Institute of Management under the University of London International Programme.

To all the Gen Zs out there, yes, you read that right — even the company is older than you.

Chee Song Foods was originally run by Mr Loh’s father. However, back in 2013, his father decided to hand over the business of Chee Song Foods to Mr Loh, who was the youngest son of the family.

The employee interviewed by Shin Min Daily News shared about Mr Loh’s astute business judgment, recounting how Mr Loh had actively expanded the company’s overseas business and set up a central kitchen for the company.

Additionally, Mr Loh also helped to set up sales, accounting, human resources, and other departments in the company. During his time at the company, he also developed Chee Song Foods from a mere meat supplier supplying local hawkers, to a wholesaler importing a variety of food products.

Aside from his business acumen, Mr Loh and his family were also described as friendly people. The employee interviewed by Shin Min Daily News recounted the time the deceased’s father had assisted him with his passport renewal, even making the effort to personally drive him to the embassy to apply for a new passport.
