Everything About the New Restrictions in Public Libraries Once They Reopen From 1 July

Phase Two is in full swing as more and more places open up to the public.

Well, my fellow bookworms in Singapore, guess what?

Your favourite library is going to open up again.

In a Facebook post on 24 Jun, the National Library Board shared this piece of happy news on their Facebook page.

Unfortunately, just like everything else during Covid-19, there are terms and conditions attached to it.

Everything About the New Restrictions in Public Libraries Once They Reopen From 1 July

From 1 Jul 2020, the National Library Building, the National Archives of Singapore building, 25 public libraries and the Former Ford Factory will reopen to the public on 1 Jul 2020.

However

All of the libraries will have shorter opening hours:

  • National Library Building, the National Archives of Singapore building, 25 public libraries: 11am to 7pm
  • Former Ford Factory: 11am to 4pm

Can Only “Takeaway”

Remember back to before Phase Two where you can only takeaway food from F&B outlets?

NLB is going to operate the same way.

You can borrow and return physical library materials, use their reservation and book drop system.

However, if you’re thinking of going to the library to enjoy some quality air-conditioning time with your favourite newspaper, that won’t be possible for now.

These activities will not be available when the libraries reopen:

  • Seating and study areas
  • Multimedia and newspaper stations
  • Programmes, guided tours and events at NLB’s physical spaces

Limited Capacity

Also, to adhere to the regulations and guidelines of Phase Two, NLB will be limiting the number of people within their premises as well.

Only 50 persons will be allowed per floor and each patron who visit the library will be timed and limited to 30 minutes.

To reduce queuing, you can book for an entry slot at NLB’s online booking system, which will be revealed later.

Other rules like mask-wearing, SafeEntry, temperature-taking and safe distancing will also be enforced.

You can head to this website or use the NLB mobile app to check the crowd level at the nearest NLB before heading over.

Yes, just like Daiso.
