Unless you’ve not paid your Internet bills for more than a year, you’d probably be familiar with the Sylvia Chan saga.
An Instagram account spilled the tea on the NOC co-founder two days ago, leaking audio and screenshots of how Sylvia treated her staff members.
While Sylvia’s silence is deafening, some people have also claimed that this is the usual work culture in Singapore, and it’s common for bosses to lose their tempers at their staff members.
For example, the CEO in Razer also used expletives and look at where his company is now. In another example, the boss in Goody F
However, with the initial leak, more people have allegedly come out with what it was like working under the company, and let’s just say that we believe it’s not going to end soon.
Here are the tea on the buffet table now.
Talent Chat Group Comprises Lawyers
In a series of screenshots, it’s alleged that in a group chat comprising talents from NOC, the company’s legal team, who includes two lawyers, are added into the group to “attend to contract matters”.
In the leaked messages, talents were asking the lawyers about their exit from NOC.

While it seems intimidating to have lawyers in a group chat, it’s actually reasonable for a company to have a legal team overseeing contracts. It might appear excessive to some, but if one is running a company, it’s almost common for disputes to occur regularly, and a legal team reading through all contracts can avoid any potential civil litigation.
Reno King & NOC
Now, this is going to be confusing if you’re not familiar with NOC…and even more confusing if you’re familiar with NOC.
So, in recent months, there’s a new series on the NOC YouTube Channel: Reno King.
Basically, it’s like a home tour with interior design / renovation tips, and the hosts, usually Ryan, Aiken and Isabelle, would explore people’s house. Sometimes, they even do up a place, like Aiken’s 3-room HDB flat that now looks like a condo in Orchard:
It’s yet another popular series by the team behind NO—wait, this is when it gets a tad confusing.
In a series of screenshot by @sgcickenrice, someone also thought that the show is under NOC, but there appears to be some conflict:

In the screenshot, someone (allegedly Sylvia) wanted to take Reno King from a person (allegedly Ryan) because the series was popular due to NOC.
Reno King’s Instagram name is called Reno King by Ryan, and in the YouTube description box for Reno King videos, it’s stated that business enquiries should be sent to a Reno King email.
Talents Backing Up Ryan
Of course, by now, backing up Sylvia might be a suicide move, but these people who back up Ryan have receipts to show.
In a series of IG stories by NOC talents, some of them pointed out how Ryan has treated them pleasantly.

In one instance, Ryan even immediately offered to transfer $1,000 to a talent whose pet requires a surgery. In most instances, Ryan texted them like a father figure, giving them advice on what they should do.
Staff Member Gives Praise to Three People
In another series of screenshots, a person vouched for three people who’ve appeared in NOC videos before: Virus, Felicia and, once again, Ryan.

It’s a wall of words but for brevity’s sake, you just need to know that they respect others and therefore others respect them.
In another screenshot, someone also said that Aiken is a “nice” guy, and from the messages, he appears to be polite as well—kind of how he is on camera.

Suffice to say, as of now, all these are mere allegations. So far, Sylvia has not responded to the allegations, but at least one brand has confirmed that it has terminated its collaboration with Sylvia due to this incident.
The company said in an Instagram reply that even “though the allegations are still under investigation, we decided to terminate all related collaborations with her.”
Once again, it should be noted that being rude isn’t exactly something that’s against the law. To know what bosses can’t do to you in Singapore, watch this video to the end:
