Every day is Racial Harmony Day.

But what happened on 21 May is more than Racial Harmony Day: It’s a day that shows what we are as Singaporeans.

If you have been scrolling through Facebook for the past few days, you might have come across this appreciation post that went viral.

A Grab Driver who believes in racial harmony

Grab driver by the name of H M Raghu went the extra mile, not in distance but in consideration for his passenger, who goes by the name of Jujul Euphoric on Facebook (I do not think that is his real name, if it is, that’s pretty cool).

Raghu was listening to his usual Jam- some English channel on the radio when a Malay Muslim passenger boarded.

Noticing the time, around 7.01pm, Raghu switched over to a Malay radio station without prompting.

Grateful for this act, Jujul sat back and relaxed and broke fast at the right time.

What piqued his interest is the fact that Raghu did not break fast too. Curious, he asked Raghu if he was Muslim too.

To which Raghu replied, “Oh no sir. I am not.”

Upon this revelation, Jujul was overcome with thankfulness, and he thanked Raghu.

Kampung spirit

To which, Raghu reminisced of the old days when he lived closely with the Malay community and they would exchange Rendang and Curry. Yumz! What a sweet thought. No fights about cooking curry.
