It’s been a trying time for Singapore recently, but even more so for the staff at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).
While amidst heartbreaking news that TTSH staff have been on the receiving end of much contempt from members of the general public, there are still kindhearted people who, through their actions, remind the TTSH staff that they aren’t alone in their fight against COVID-19.
Bakery Allows Public to Sponsor TTSH Staff With Care Packages; Receives $8,000 Worth of Orders on 1st Day
After Stuff’d’s offer of free meals for TTSH staff, Novena-based bakery, Bakery Brera & Fine Foods, is the latest to show solidarity with the healthcare professionals. It is offering an initiative for the public to buy care packages for TTSH staff.
Needless to say, the initiative quickly saw an outpouring of support. The bakery received more than $8,000 in orders on the first day alone, a volume it is still struggling to fulfill. It even has to dedicate a staff member exclusively to fulfilling the pastry orders.
Guess TTSH workers will be swamped with cake soon.
According to Mothership, the owner of the bakery, Thrina Low, explained that her regular customers are often from TTSH.
As the COVID-19 situation worsened, she noticed an increase in care package orders, and found out the staff were facing worsening conditions: they were restricted from leaving hospital grounds for lunch and interacting with the outside community, all the while dealing with increased workloads.
Low realised that there were many hoping to express support for the beleaguered TTSH employees, and hopes that the bakery’s initiative provides an avenue for that to happen.
If you too wish to sponsor the hardworking TTSH staff with a lovely surprise, check out the original Facebook post below to find out how to join in on this initiative!
Banner of Support
This is not the only touching gesture from around the island, as Mothership reports.
In the morning of 7 May, TTSH staff arrived at their workplace to find a large banner of support put up by “silent supporters”.
The banner is dedicated to “Dear Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Healthcare Frontliners and Patients”, and pledges in Chinese that “with our hearts beating as one, we’ll journey ahead together”.
TTSH expressed their gratitude in a Facebook post:
“To our silent supporters who took the time to prepare this banner, we are touched by your efforts, and we thank you for thinking of us”.
It added, “And to everyone who has been rooting for us from wherever you are—our on-campus and neighbouring retail partners, private-hire and taxi drivers and all our other friends across the island—you keep us going.”
(We hope whoever made the banner won’t be charged under the Public Order Act.)
