Ngee Ann Poly Disciplines 28 Students Who Were Involved in Hazing Incident After Disciplinary Inquiry

After taking the piss back in March and April, Ngee Ann Poly (NP) has finally got their (excuse my language) shit together and disciplined the students involved in the serious hazing incident involving urine.

But if you’re confused about what pee and NP (read: N-Pee?) have got to do with each other (apart from rhyming), here’s a recap of the rather traumatising event.

A video was uploaded to Instagram channel @ginasofsg on 22 March 2021, with the caption: “Apparently, students from NP were coerced into relieving themselves on each other ahead of a freshman orientation camp.” It has since been taken down.

However, another version, which blurred out the acts in the original video, had been uploaded in its stead.

In the uncensored video, a group of boys could be seen huddled in a shower stall around 2 naked boys—who were on their knees.

The crowd seemed to be taking turns to urinate on them.

Disturbing comments also filled the background, with one asking to “empty your vessels”, and “pee the hair, pee the hair”.

According to a subsequent screenshot, the act, which occurred as part of “hazing”, was supposedly “consensual”. Um, sure.

NP Takes Disciplinary Action Against 28 Students

According to The Straits Times, the school had emailed all of its students, announcing that it had found 28 students to be responsible for the incident after a disciplinary inquiry.

Given their initial dismal response, one has to wonder if they started the serious email with “Hey, NP Fam!”

The students involved were all male students in their second or third year. The school has already meted out punishments ranging from corrective work order to suspension for these NP(ee)-rs.

In addition, the 28 students were not wearing masks or keeping a safe distance from one another, breaking COVID-19 regulations.

The email explained that all of the students were part of the trial programme for student facilitators to prepare for the NP Students’ Union (NPSU) freshmen bonding programme. The event was held on 20 March, two days before the video surfaced on the internet.

They revealed that after the trial programme, the group of students had gathered in one of the campus toilets and “participated in an inappropriate act purportedly for ‘fun’, led by one of the students”.

The school condemned the act, calling it “indecent and disrespectful, and in violation of NP’s student code of conduct.”

But how exactly did the video go viral?

Obviously, the group of students had taken videos of the act and shared them with friends over WhatsApp. They also uploaded them onto social media platforms, probably expecting laughs.

Of course, most did not share the same sentiment.

Currently, the school has paused all student union activities until further notice.

Staff members are to step up their supervision of student activities and be more stringent in areas such as the selection and training of student leaders and volunteers.

NP has also added an anti-hazing policy into its student’s code of conduct and has promised to improve on their educational efforts in emphasising the importance of mutual respect and responsible behaviour.

“All students are encouraged to come forward and report activities or incidents that they are not comfortable with, even if these activities might appear to be consensual.”

However, more allegations of misdemeanours and sexual harassment have surfaced on social media, following many others speaking out about the notoriety of NPSU.

The school has also promised to follow up with investigations and gather feedback.

“Should any wrongdoing be found, we will not hesitate to take all necessary actions,” they said.

No more pee in NP, hopefully.
