A 21-year-old student from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) was found lying motionless in NTU’s Tanjong Hall. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Here’s what happened.
21YO NTU Student Found Lying Motionless in NTU’s Tanjong Hall; Pronounced Dead at the Scene
On Tuesday (3 December), the Singapore Police Force (SPF) received a call for assistance at 64 Nanyang Crescent at around 7:45 am.
If you’re wondering where 64 Nanyang Crescent is, the address corresponds to where NTU’s Tanjong Hall is. Tanjong Hall is one of the many student residential halls in NTU, where undergraduate students may stay during the course of their academic studies.
Upon arrival at the given address, SPF officers found a 21-year-old male lying motionless. As it turns out, the 21-year-old was a student from NTU.
The student was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
Police Did Not Suspect Foul Play; NTU Assisting With Police Investigations
While the circumstances around the student’s death are rather unclear, the police do not suspect foul play based on preliminary investigations.
Of course, however, police investigations are still ongoing. NTU is assisting with the investigations.
The university also added that it is currently extending counselling support to the deceased’s family and friends.
Not the First Time a Student Has Been Found Dead in Residential Hall
This is far from the first time a student has been found dead in a residential hall.
A few years ago, back in 2019, police responded to a call for assistance at 38 Nanyang Crescent in the evening. The address corresponds to where the Nanyang Crescent Halls are, which includes Saraca Hall, Tamarind Hall and Hall of Residence 7 — all of these are residential halls in NTU.
Upon arrival, the police found a 23-year-old NTU student dead in his residential hall room. The student had died of natural causes, according to NTU’s Associate Provost of Student Life.
Merely two months ago, a student was similarly found dead at a hostel in the National University of Singapore (NUS). On Thursday (3 October), police received a call for assistance at 38 Prince George’s Park at 7:25 am.
The address corresponds to the location of Prince George’s Park Residences — one of the many housing options for students in NUS.
Upon arrival, the police found an 18-year-old man lying motionless at the foot of the building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The police similarly did not suspect foul play in that case.
