Whenever the words “tighter measures”, “circuit breaker”, or “essential reasons” appear in the news or come out of a minister’s mouth, a queue of Singaporeans will magically appear at all supermarkets across the country.
Since more and more people have been cooking their food during the pandemic, supermarkets have become a significant part of our everyday lives.
And with so many people in supermarkets, it’s more important than ever to ensure that the proper measures are taken to prevent a cluster from forming.

And that’s exactly what an NTUC FairPrice outlet did.
NTUC FairPrice at Woodlands Ave 1 Reopens After Disinfection Due to a COVID-19 Case
Three days after closing its doors to residents, NTUC FairPrice’s Woodlands Ave 1 store has officially reopened.
The supermarket chain announced the move in a Facebook post today (21 May).
The outlet was closed on Tuesday (18 May) for deep cleaning after one of its employees tested positive for the coronavirus.
NTUC assured residents that they have taken the necessary safety precautions before reopening.
“Since our store was closed for deep cleaning, our staff from the store have all been placed on leave of absence to undergo health checks, and they remain safe at home during this time,” it said.
For the time being, all affected employees in the store will be temporarily replaced by a different group of workers.

NTUC ended its post by expressing gratitude to its employees for selflessly serving residents throughout the pandemic, despite the risks involved.
“Our frontline heroes truly embody the spirit of service, selflessness and resilience, providing for the daily needs of our communities every day,” it said.
“Stay safe everyone, and thank you for your encouragement and support!”
After the employee tested positive, NTUC also ordered swab tests for all workers at the store.
The employee who tested positive had been fully vaccinated earlier this year.

Sheng Siong Closes Bukit Batok Outlet After Employee Tests Positive
FairPrice wasn’t the only supermarket forced to shutter due to a COVID-19 infection.
On Sunday, Sheng Siong closed its Block 440 Bukit Batok Avenue 8 outlet after an employee there was confirmed to be COVID-19 positive.
All employees at the outlet will also undergo COVID-19 tests.
The worker who tested positive is a 28-year-old man who replenishes stocks at the grocery department.
He developed a sore throat on 14 May and fever the next day. He sought medical treatment at a GP clinic that day and tested positive for COVID-19.

The man completed his vaccination regimen on 25 Mar, having received his first dose on 4 Mar.
Fortunately, Sheng Siong said the man had minimal contact with customers.
