NUS The Deck’s Yong Tau Foo & Laksa Ex-Owner Passed Away

Talk about food in NUS, and Yong Tau Foo Laksa at NUS The Deck will be among the top topics.

There’s nothing not to like about the food, except the long queues which are typically about 30 minutes.

The laksa gravy’s packed full of flavour with a good balance of richness and spices. Dump all the ingredients you want, and the bowl is still not likely to cost more than S$4. Replace the laksa gravy with the clear soup if you need a healthier meal.

Nothing better than a good bowl of food after a mentally exhausting day of lectures, projects, and tutorials.

The stall isn’t going away, but we regret to say that the ex-owner has passed away on 22 September 2019.

Business at the stall will resume on 30 Sep 2019 as the current stall owners are on compassionate leave.

Well-Known Stall With A Long History And Perpetual Queue

If you ever visit The Deck, you’ll see two queues at the Yong Tau Foo stall.

Queue on the right to select your ingredients, then go to the left to pay and receive the food. It’s also usually the longest queue.

Of course, if you’re from NUS or graduated from there, you probably know about the stall. You’ll find that the stall is mentioned many times across various media outlets and consistently appearing on Top NUS food lists. “Sensational“, “crazy popular“, “can’t resist“.

Mdm Ng, who worked the stall from 1997 to 2018, isn’t portrayed much in the media, but patrons of her stall would know her as a warm person.

We may not know much about her as a person, but it is safe to say that her food has left a great impression in our stomachs and will be etched in our memories.

In 2018, the stall was handed over to her daughter.

Wake At Blk 211 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3

For those who want to pay respects to Mdm Ng, the wake will be held at Blk 211, Ang Mo Kio Ave 3, S560211, from 22 to 25 September 2019 morning.

The procession will set off to Mandai Crematorium on 25 September at 10 am.

Auntie… you’ll be missed. The story of your Yong Tau Foo shall live on.
