If you’ve been to Orchard Road, you definitely would have stopped by and watched this icon perform his craft.
Orchard Road’s Beads Uncle, Mr Oh Ow Kee, has passed away on 5 June 2022.
Master of Beads
Mr Oh was an iconic busker who often performed along Orchard Road. He was a master of beads, artfully swinging chains of them around his neck and waist.
He wasn’t able to perform during the pandemic due to restrictions, but went back to busking after 2 April 2022 when busking was allowed again.

Rumoured Death in 2021
Last year, a TikTok video went viral claiming that Mr Oh had passed away.
However, the co-chair of Buskers’ Association Singapore Johnathan Goh said that Mr Oh was still alive and well. Despite his old age and COVID-19 restrictions, he was still practicing his craft in his free time.
This time, it is no longer some unsubstantiated rumour.
