Reality is often harsh.

When you’re of use, the whole world seems to adore you. But when you’ve messed up somewhere and lost your essence of value?

The world becomes a way, way colder place to live in.

Organisations That Prominently Featured Tan Chuan-Jin Now Removed Him from Website

It appears that former Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin is getting the wholesale “cancelled” treatment.

Following his political resignation, alongside accompanying controversies, Tan was dropped by several big-name organisations.

These include the faith-based website Thir.st and his alma mater, Raffles Junior College.

Apparently, after news of his infidelity broke out, the faith-based website removed articles that revolved around Tan.

Raffles Institution also purportedly removed Tan’s photo from its wall of noteworthy alumni.

It should be noted, however, that the exclusions were later rescinded.

In the case of the faith-based website, the articles were each uploaded again with an editor’s note attached.

In the editor’s note dated 17 July 2023, the site apologised for temporarily taking down the articles and stated that it contemplated “how best to approach” the issue.

Clarifying that the articles were uploaded before “any allegations” surfaced, the site implored readers to go through the articles in “the appropriate context” now.

Meanwhile, a photo claiming that Tan’s photo had been removed from Raffles Institution’s wall of noteworthy alumni had reportedly been circulating since 17 July 2023.

On 18 July 2023, however, the school responded to media queries, stating that “Tan’s portrait remains on the school wall” alongside other notable alumni.

It should also be noted that his interview with the Dads for Life website, a piece that was reportedly taken down and rendered inaccessible until the evening of 18 July, has since been reinstated in the morning of 19 July 2023.

In other news, Tan has also resigned as the president of the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) and the National Council of Social Service (NCSS).

He has also since stepped down as patron of organisations such as Centre for Fathering and Club Rainbow.

He will, however, see out his remaining term at Healthway Medical Group.

Saga

So if you don’t already know, former Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin recently resigned from his position, citing issues regarding his “personal misconduct”.

At first glance, it had something to do with his hot mic issue. But the severity of that particular matter and the coincidental resignation of former Member of Parliament Cheng Li Hui got us wondering what the natural problem was.

Speculations soon turned into reality, as it was subsequently revealed that Tan and Cheng shared a relationship that went past that of average colleagues.

While office romance isn’t strictly frowned upon, the fact that Tan is a married man with two kids is undoubtedly looked upon with raised eyebrows.

PM Lee had previously instructed the illicit pair to end their romance, but recent evidence suggested that Tan and Cheng had not ceased relations.

Hence, careers had to end.
