By now, you would’ve probably heard of how a stand-alone, full-length mirror in a store at Jewel Changi Airport fell and killed an 18-month-old girl.
In case you haven’t, the incident happened in an Urban Revivo outlet a mere 3 hours before her family was due to fly home.
First aid was administered to the unconscious girl before paramedics arrived and she was brought to Changi General Hospital. However, the little girl passed away from her injuries at the hospital.
Other Children Knocked Down Mirror
According to the Chinese paper Lianhe Wanbao, a few other children were playing in the Urban Revivo outlet when they had accidentally knocked down the full-length, standalone mirror.
The mirror then fell on the little girl who happened to be standing in front of it.
Girl’s Body Cremated In Singapore
The family has since collected her body from the morgue and her body has been cremated in Singapore on Sunday, 25 August 2019.
The child’s mother and family then went to the store at around 6 am to say their prayers.
Other Accidents In Jewel ChangiÂ
This was the first fatal accident, following a spate of other accidents and injuries that have occurred at Jewel Changi since its opening.
Previously, a woman injured her hand after she tripped and fell at the sky nets attraction at Canopy Park on 14 June.
In a separate incident, a teenager needed 9 stitches after she cut her face while playing at the Mirror Maze attraction in Canopy Park on 19 June.
And on 24 June, a boy was taken to the hospital after his foot was trapped in an escalator.
Not The First Incident With Mirrors
Back in 2013, a four-year-old boy was crushed to death in a Hugo Boss outlet when he moved the wings of a three-piece standing mirror. The mirror, which weighed a whopping 118 kg, fell on him after it wobbled.
Hugo Boss was then fined more than SGD$2 million for the incident.
PSA: Accidents can happen at any time, and it is important to remain cautious and take care of ourselves and our loved ones.
