PAP and PSP Teams Engage in Spirited Chanting Competition at West Coast-Jurong West Hawker Centre

In olden times, conflicting parties drew swords and spears as they sought to make a point.

Now, in more modern times, conflicting parties, at least here in sunny Singapore, are using something a little more civil when they meet:

Chanting Competition

A chance encounter between the People’s Action Party (PAP) and Progress Singapore Party (PSP) teams contesting West Coast-Jurong West GRC created a lively atmosphere at a hawker centre near Block 964 Jurong West Street 91 earlier this morning (30 April 2025).

The PSP team, led by Mr Leong Mun Wai, raised their fists and chanted “PSP” when they spotted the PAP team, headed by Mr Ang Wei Neng, walking by.

Not to be outdone, PAP team members responded with spirited chants of their own party name.

The moment transformed what had been a routine walkabout into an unexpected face-to-face meeting between the political rivals.

Political Leaders Exchange Greetings Amid Campaign Activities

Despite the “competitive” chanting, the encounter took a more cordial turn when Mr Ang shook hands with PSP founder Dr Tan Cheng Bock.

Dr Tan was separately making his rounds at the market, engaging with residents through friendly conversation.

The brief interaction between the opposing team leaders happened while both parties continued their campaign efforts in the constituency.

Both teams were conducting their walkabouts as part of their grassroots outreach efforts to connect with voters in the West Coast-Jurong West GRC.

Others found the situation funnily similar to a particular school event.
