You Can Get Your Passport Within Days If Your Online Appeal to ICA is Successful

According to the updated Immigrations and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), you can get your new passport within days, if your online appeal is proven successful.

Please read carefully: the ICA is accepting online appeals, please don’t go down to Lavender to attempt an appeal.

All the ICA officer will do is show you a QR code that links you to the online appeal form, and you will probably end up standing outside the building awkwardly as you fill in the necessary information and upload the supporting documents.

Neither of you will enjoy the experience, probably.

How Does the Appeal Process Work?

For urgent requests, ICA will reply within a week, or at least two days before the intended date of travel, depending on whichever is earlier.

For those applying for an appeal, they need to upload supporting documents, such as:

  • Hotel reservations
  • Flight tickets
  • Itinerary

The form takes about 10 minutes to complete, or less, and it will require the applicant to state their date of intended travel.

If your appeal succeeds, you will be directed to collect your passport at the ICA Building in Lavender, or at one of the 27 post offices.

On ICA’s Photo Guidelines

The most important part of the passport application is definitely your photograph, which must meet the standards laid out by the ICA’s photo guidelines.

The photos must be taken with even brightness, within the last three months, and with a neutral expression.

The shoulders and hair must be visible, and the background must be white in colour.

If your photograph doesn’t match the stated criteria, it will slow down the progress of your passport renewal significantly as you have to re-submit another acceptable photograph.

Passport Renewal Update

As far as we know, the ICA is still dealing with a whole backlog of passport renewal requests.

To the administrative staff that have to churn out 5,000 passports per day, we salute you!

In order to shorten the snaking queues outside the ICA building, most of the processes, like the expediency appeal and checking of passport status, have been transferred online.

It will still take upwards of six weeks before you can receive your new passport after submitting your request.

You can check the status of your passport renewal by logging into the MyICA website.

Also, if you’re going to collect your passport at the ICA building, please try to snag an e-appointment, or else you’ll be in for a long wait, since the queues are still notoriously long.
