People Still Putting $0.50 Coupons in Car Parks, Saman Aunties Pang Chance First

If you’re a driver, you should know that starting from 1 December 2016, parking in HDB and URA car parks will be slightly more expensive: instead of the usual $0.50 per 1/2 hour, it will be $0.60.

With the latest revision being made fourteen years ago, it’s unavoidable that people will find the change difficult—not because they don’t have the money to pay the increase, but the need to get new parking coupons.

The last time I bought an HDB / URA parking booklet was like months ago (or maybe a year!), and I’ve only used a few of them. With most car parks using gantries nowadays, buying parking coupons has become almost rare—not to mention having to exchange them.

From October 2016 onwards, motorists are able to exchange their old parking coupons for the new ones, but let’s face it: who remember to do it? Even as we pump petrol regularly, we won’t have remembered to bring out our parking coupons, eh?

But thank God the authority understands this, and so, if you use the cheaper parking coupons now, you won’t be saman-ed—saman auntie will pang chance if you’re a first-time offender.

According to The Straits Times, many people have gone to buy or exchange their parking coupons recently, which leads to several places to run out of stock.

Last-minute work—so Singaporean, eh?

The exchange will end on 31 January 2017 for participating petrol stations, and there’s no deadline for the change in the 23 HDB branches, except the Tampines Branch and URA Centre.
