When most of us come across an animal, we either want to pet it or stay away from it, if we have a fear of them.
But some people, believe it or not, see an easy target for their sadistic desires.
For reasons unfathomable, these people enjoy abusing, hurting, and torturing innocent animals on our streets.
This can range from abandoning a pet to full blown dismemberment and murder.
Most of the time, these cases of abuse involve dogs and cats.
This time however, a poor pigeon was the victim.
Pigeon’s Eyes Got Shot with DIY Dart in Ang Mo Kio; ACRES Appealing for Witnesses
Wildlife rescue group Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES) has appealed to the public for information after a pigeon in Ang Mo Kio was found with a DIY dart in its right eye.
The injured pigeon was found by a member of the public at 547 Ang Mo Kio Ave 10 in the lift lobby around 10:30 am on 6th Jan 2021.
Concerned, the resident alerted ACRES about the incident.
“A wooden stick with a sharpened end was used as a dart by someone, which had punctured the pigeon’s right eye and lodged itself deep”, ACRES said in a Facebook post.
ACRES said it has submitted the case to NParks for investigation, and has appealed to the public for information about the incident.
Those with information can send an email to [email protected].

Netizens’ Reaction
Netizens were understandably outraged by the incident, and baffled as to how someone could do such a cruel thing.
Some called for tougher penalties against animal abusers.
Similar Case Occurred in March Last Year
Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time a pigeon was found with darts embedded in its body.
Back in Feb 2020, ACRES filed a police report after two pigeons were found with darts embedded in their bodies.
A member of the public had found a rock pigeon with a dart in its body at 864 Jurong West Street 81 and alerted ACRES on 28 Feb.
When ACRES arrived at the scene, they found another pigeon with two similar darts in its body, before flying away.
Unfortunately, the authorities did not have enough evidence to establish the identity of the person who had been abusing the pigeons.
Let’s hope that the offender will be caught this time.
