“I choose you, Pikachu”.
Typically, you’d either hear these words from Ash Ketchum, or strange people on the streets who take Pokemon GO way too seriously.
Even if you’re not a fan of Pokemon, it’s hard to deny that Pikachu is one of the cutest creations of any animator.
That’s why several Pikachu-themed products have cropped up, including creepy dog beds:
And even creepier human beds:
And plush toys:
You’d expect to see these products in the bedroom of a Pokemon fan, but some Clementi residents have been seeing several Pokemon plushies on the bicycle of one food delivery rider lately.
GrabFood Rider in Clementi Has Been Sending Food With Lots of Pikachu Plushies
A GrabFood rider who delivers food in Clementi has a rather unique-looking bicycle.
His decked-out bike first attracted the attention of netizens back in April, when he was spotted illuminating the streets at night.
For those of you who can’t tell, those bright little things on his bike and basket are Pikachu plush toys.
On Tuesday (27 Oct), two more Redditors shared pictures of the famous Pikachu rider in Clementi.
In the first image, the man can be seen waiting at a traffic light, presumably on a mission to deliver some food and catch more Pikachus.
His basket was full of flowers, and his Grab bag was decorated with various Pikachu plush toys.
In the second image, which is certainly more eye-catching, we can see that the man’s bike is not only adorned with Pika plushies, but with LED lights as well, perfect for lighting up gloomy nights.
Uses Toys & Lights to Prevent Accidents?
Now, I’m not hating on Pikachu or anything, but it’s certainly a mystery as to why this rider chose Pokemon plushies as his decoration of choice.
Netizens were wondering the same thing, with one asking if he was selling the plush toys.
This would be a strange accompaniment to your delivered food and also probably not allowed by Grab, so this is unlikely.
Another Redditor speculated that the rider uses the bright yellow plushies and LED lights at night to get the attention of negligent or unsuspecting motorists on the road.
This, he said, would explain why some riders also blast loud music when passing by oblivious pedestrians who are glued to their phone.
This theory was echoed by another netizen:
In any case, one netizen who interacted with the rider said he was a “cool and chill” guy.
Hopefully, the rider will come out one day and explain his unique choice of ornamentation.
