Two weeks ago, an Amsterdam-bound flight had to make an emergency landing in Vienna.
No, there was no terrorist.
There was also nothing wrong with the plane engines.
Truth is, there was a ‘bomb’.
A smelly one.
It wasn’t an act of mischief tho.
According to The Straits Times, a man onboard a Transavia flight from Dubai to Amsterdam refused to stop farting.
Two Dutch men on board the same flight were seated near this ‘farting man’ and they had to repeatedly ask him to stop farting.
Having to inform someone that you can smell it is one thing, having to do it is another!
This led to a heated exchange to break out between them.
The pilot of the low-cost airline then decided to make an emergency landing at Vienna International Airport.
Local police officers came on board the aircraft with dogs.
They escorted four people down the plane: the two Dutchmen, and two Dutch-Moroccan sisters, who were sitting in the same row.
“The strange thing was that we also had to leave the aircraft, when we did not know these guys at all. We happened to be in the same row, but did not do anything to justify the bizarre behaviour of the Transavia crew,” she said.
However, a Transavia Airlines spokesman had responded, saying that the woman was misbehaving and throwing verbal abuse at other passengers.
A police spokesman confirmed that “a passenger suffering from wind who was not attempting to restrain himself” was involved in the incident.
What an awkward statement to make…
The four passengers were banned from the airlines, and had to make alternative transport arrangements on their own.
It is unclear what happened to the passenger who was farting and whether he had a medical condition that led to the situation.
But don’t ask me why the ‘farting man’ wasn’t asked to leave the aircraft, I thought that would be the best solution, but nope.
They decided to make the rest of the passengers suffer even more.
Not the first time
You might think that this is a joke, but it’s not the first time this has happened.
More than a decade ago, a woman was trying to conceal her ‘body odour’ by lighting up matches on a plane.
Yes, matches. On a plane.
According to Metro, the burning smell caused the flight to make an emergency landing as well (duh).
The woman was then banned from the airline ‘for a long time’ and the flight departed again without her.
Just dumb people doing dumb things.
