Plane Nearly Went Skidding Into the Sea. Here’s What You Should Know.

According to state-run Anadolu news agency, one of the passengers Fatma said: “There was panic, people shouting, screaming.”

“When they told us to leave from the rear exit, everyone tried to push ahead of everyone else. It was a terrible situation,” she added.

The airport was closed temporarily until Sunday morning, with all flights either being cancelled or delayed while the removal of the plane is still in progress.

Why did it happen

The cause of the mishap is still unknown as of writing time and investigations are still underway, according to Trabzon governor’s office.

But according to the aforementioned statement by the airlines, the mishap was a runway excursion.

Professor Atakan Aksoy from Karadeniz Technical University’s civil engineering department told Dogan that this kind of accidents can happen due to the narrow ground surface in the northern part of the airport and because it is near a cliff.

Current situation

According to Dogan news agency, the Trabzon public prosecutor has launched a separate criminal probe. The prosecutor would seek statements from the six crew on board.
