Imagine that one day, you are enjoying a cheese platter alongside a bottle of wine when you feel cramps in your stomach. You wonder if your baby is unhappy that you’re a borderline alcoholic but you remember: you’re a guy.
As you rush to the toilet to let out an ocean of pain, you wondered have you suddenly become lactose intolerant or is it something more?
Just as you were mindlessly scrolling through the internet, you saw this:
Cheese Product Recalled by Cold Storage Due to Possible Bacterial Contamination
The European Commission Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) had issued a notification that a Cantorel brand “Plateau 5 Fromages” cheese product (300g) was recalled.
The products are from France and their best before dates are on 3 Jan 2022. They were previously sold at Cold Storage as well. Currently, the affected products are no longer in the market.
This is due to the contamination of a bacteria which would cause fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps: listeria monocytogenes.
Those with a weakened immune system, pregnant, above 65 years old or under one year old will have a higher chance of being infected and will experience worse symptoms.
If diagnosed early, the infection can be treated with antibiotics.
The bacteria causes mild listeriosis which can result in diarrhoea, muscle aches and fever.
People who have bought the product and consume it should seek medical advice if they have concerns about their health.
They may also call Cold Storage at 1800-8918-100 for inquiries as well.
Previously Recalled Products
Last month, ready-to-eat raw Pacific oysters harvested from Coffin Bay, South Australia from 4 September to 16 November 2021 was recalled. This was due to Vibrio parahaemolyticus contamination.
Those infected with this bacterium will experience food poisoning symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea, fever and chills as well.
Three importers, Angliss Singapore Pte Ltd, Evergreen Seafood Pte Ltd and Culina Pte Ltd recalled the products.
Earlier this year, another cheese product has been recalled. They are the Le Gall Cream Cheese products from France. The products include:
- Le Gall Cream Cheese Plain (150g)
- Le Gall Cream Cheese Garlic & Herbs (150g)
- Le Gall Cream Cheese Strawberry (150g)
- Le Gall Natural Cream Cheese (1kg)
They were recalled due to the presence of a pesticide, ethylene oxide. Those who have consumed the product may experience an upset and painful stomach.
