PM Lee Urges S’poreans To Work Together As S’pore Tries To Scale Up COVID-19 Operations

We have officially broken the 1,000-record for the number of COVID-19 cases detected daily since April 2020, and the government is trying its best to scale up operations to ensure that all patients are well taken care of.

When the home recovery scheme for fully vaccinated COVID-19 cases was first established on 15 September, it was limited to only those aged between 12 and 50.

However, due to the increase in cases, the scheme was revised to include those aged between 50 to 69 as well.

PM Lee Visits CMTG Office

In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong revealed that he had visited the COVID-19 case management task group’s (CMTG) operations office on Tuesday.

For the unaware, the task group is in charge of handling COVID-19 patients, “from detection to recovery”.

This means that they’re the ones with patients right from the beginning, from “assigning patients to appropriate care facilities, arranging for transport, and briefing them on what they need to do, especially those who choose home recovery”.

Essentially, your COVID-19 buddy.

His Facebook post comes after concerns that were raised by citizens who tested positive or by those whose family members are COVID-19 patients and are recovering at home.

Some of the questions include why MOH takes so long to contact the patients after they have tested positive.

Others also remarked that MOH went into “radio silence”.

He explained that the task group has a “very demanding task” and they operate daily for 24 hours to ensure that every case is accounted for.

As such, there may be some slight delays in the patient-contacting process.

Recover At Home

Instead of heading to a care facility, Mr Lee has urged all fully vaccinated COVID-19 patients to recover at home if possible.

This would allow the patients to recover in the comfort of their own homes, and would be “less disruptive”, “especially if their symptoms are mild”.

Furthermore, doing so will free up the number of hospital beds available in these care facilities, allowing the “seriously ill ones” to get the urgent treatment that they require.

Recently, it has come to light that A&E departments in Singapore are coming under pressure due to the influx of patients.

Just like what he has said at the beginning of the pandemic, Mr Lee urged everyone to play their part and follow the rules that have been implemented.

The rules are in place for a reason, right?

He reminded everyone to get vaccinated and wear their masks properly.

If we are able to work together, we can get through safely without overwhelming our hospitals or suffering unnecessary casualties”, he reminded.
