Now, before you go around criticizing the PMD rider for riding on the road, just take note of this: the PMD rider is probably riding an e-bicycle, so according to the LTA rules, he’s allowed to be on the road (and not allowed on footpath).
So this fellow isn’t exactly breaking the rules, though he might have just broken his bike, and have definitely broken his ego.
Because another video has gone viral on Facebook Page ROADS.sg, and once again, it involves someone doing something stupid on the road with a bicycle.
Meet Mr Wheelie.
Wheelie, the Cool Maneuver That’s Better Left to the Expert
Lest you’re unfamiliar with wheelie, here’s a gif that shows how cool it is.
Pretty lit, eh?
But not everyone can do it. It takes lots of practice, falls and bruises, and I’m pretty sure it doesn’t help you get from point A to B faster.
According to the trusty Wikipedia, for one to perform a wheelie on a bicycle, it’s not just about lifting the front wheel up and moving forward: one would need to balance based on the rider’s weight and even leverage on the rear brake.
But this guy decided to follow Nike’s motto and just do it.
Unfortunately, this happened.
Right in the middle of a junction between West Coast Road and Clementi West Street 2 on 27 Dec at 8:40 p.m.
Although you’ve got to wonder if there’s something wrong with his bike as the rear wheels seem be moving by itself.
But it’s not his fail that attracts people’s attention. It’s how everyone just DGAF.
Everyone’s Like, “PMD? Again? Cheese Pie.”
So, guy’s fallen and has to pick up his belongings, his bike and his ego. Granted that it doesn’t look serious, everyone’s like minding their own business.
Taxi stopped (for God’s sake, thank God), and after a while, just passed by the fallen warrior.
Man is thinking whether to buy sweet or salted popcorn.
Auntie is goody to use a recyclable bag.
Guy bought so many things, he’s wondering if the cyclist can tongbang his stuff home.
Bus slowed down instead of making a complete stop because diesel is expensive.
And finally, motorcyclist can’t keep his eyes off the fallen hero.
Here’s the full video:
And yes, in 16 hours, it has well over 2.8K Shares.
Pretty sure someone called Gavin Smith is hoping that everyone would be CSI-ing this fallen warrior, but I’m also pretty sure netizens DGAF.
Bystander Effect
So why has no one come forward to help? Is it because they really hate PMDs?
Well, not. It’s due to something known as the “Bystander Effect”.
You see, people take no action because it’s a subconscious reaction: they’re frozen and just do what their heart tell them to do, and that is to merely observe.
However, psychologists suggest that if you do know about the Bystander Effect, you’ll break this subconscious reaction and help out.
‘Coz deep in our mind, we might have always wanted to help; we’re just locked by the Bystander Effect.
So next time, if you see someone helping, you’d know they’ve got the Goody Feed, since this is an app-exclusive article and they know about the Bystander Effect.
Even if you hate PMDs #justsaying #couldbeyourfoodthereleh
