Pokemon GO might be the new kid on the block but it has taken the world by storm. From changing the way we live to the way we play our games, one cannot deny the far-reaching effects of the game, whether it be good or bad.
And what better way to show the impact of Pokemon GO than to show the records it has broken. Or to be more specific, the world records it has broken?
Here are 5 world records Pokemon GO has broken in its first month, and why we say it’s set to break even more.
1. Most Gross Revenue Earned by a Mobile Game in its First Month
First launched on 6 July this year in the US, Australia and New Zealand before slowly trickling to other regions around the world, the game has grossed $206.5 million (SGD277.3 million) in its first month of operations.
And the scariest part? The app has yet to be released in major gaming markets like South Korea.
2. Most Downloaded Game in its First Month
The game has been downloaded 130 million times. That’s about 24 times the entire population of Singapore which stands at 5.39 million.
3. Most International Charts Topped for Downloads Simultaneously for a Mobile Game in its First Month
Across 70 different countries’ mobile download charts, Pokemon GO ranked as #1 in terms of downloads since it’s launch on 6 July 2016.
4. Most International Charts Topped for Revenue Simultaneously for a Mobile Game in its First Month
Other than the charts for mobile downloads, Pokemon GO also topped 55 charts for gross revenue from mobile applications simultaneously.
5. Fastest Time to Gross $100 Million by a Mobile Game
It just took the mobile app 20 days to break the $100 million gross revenue barrier on 26 July 2016.
If there’s an Olympics for mobile apps, Pokemon GO probably won itself a gold medal.
