Someone Called the Police After Shirtless Hunks Stunt in Bugis Mookata

Imagine this:

The sight of four robust men in their prime, dressed in light purple aprons with only straps at the back holding the fabric in place as they strut up to your tables with drinks in hand.

Whether your attention is on the food, the men, or both, you’re not really to blame, because that was the whole appeal of the special event at the restaurant.

The entire ordeal must have been too hot to handle or was on the verge of bringing the house down, because someone decided to call the police after seeing that display.

No worries though, no men, restaurant, or delicious meat were harmed in the process of the short investigation.

The two restaurant owners, aged 24 and 25, gave a reassuring statement, saying that the call had arose from a misunderstanding about their shirtless hunks appearing seemingly nude in public.

Perhaps the caller was red-eyed or green-eyed with jealousy or offended?

We’ll never know.

The Hotness of Mookata

Now, you might be asking, what exactly is a Mookata?

Sounds kind of exotic, perhaps it also involves cows and martial arts?

None of the above actually.

The exact term is ‘mu kratha’ which is a Southeast Asian cooking method that originated from Thailand. It is only in the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore where we call it ‘Mookata’ instead.

Mu kratha translates to ‘pan pork’ from Thai to English, and the mu kratha is akin to a combination of a Korean barbeque grill and a Chinese hotpot.

From just the cooking method alone, you can surely expect a heated and jovial atmosphere as you lean over the grill and rising steam, enjoying pieces of scalded meat whilst sipping on cold beverages.

Of course, since it originates from Thailand, you can never forget about the spices and sauces that are bound to come as a complement.

Mmmm… Sounds tasty.

Mr Mookata

For the current restaurant in question, aptly named Mr Mookata, they serve an array of meats, anywhere from beef, pork, chicken, to seafood.

In fact, to spice up the deal, they even have four types of homemade chilis and Thai milk teas that you can get for a cheap add-on of $2.90.

And in celebration of the New Year, Mr Mookata decided to have a special event on the 8th and 15th of January where SHIRTLESS HUNKS (their capitalised words, not mine) will be serving the customers drinks all night long.

There will be a free flow of lemon tea, barely, and calamansi drinks for buffet dinners then, courtesy of their collaboration with Asia Farm Beverages.

The bare bodies of the servers, on the other hand, were just a play on the restaurant’s emphasis of health and and the image of youthful vigour as they promoted these healthy and low-sugar drinks.

Gentlemen, I suggest you don’t bring your ladies there on a date, unless you swing both ways of course. If that’s really fine by you, well, you’re free to admire the view too. It’s a free country, alright?

Putting their menu and special promotions aside, although the short visit from the police dampened the atmosphere slightly, I suppose they did turn the misfortune into a blessing since it meant free, and much needed publicity for the establishment.

If you’re looking for a way to enjoy your next Saturday (15 Jan), make sure you arrive at Mr Mookata at Bugis early for dinner, because they are going on a first come first serve basis!
