Humans seem to have an innate dislike for those in authority.
“What gives them the right to judge me?”, you say as you leave your house without a mask to eat Bak Kut Teh at the coffee shop.
That’s why when a person in a position of authority gets caught breaking the law, we jump all over them like a pack of hyenas over some leftover meat.
TP Officer Caught Not Wearing a Mask
A few days ago, some netizens spotted a TP officer committing a mortal sin: not wearing a mask.
Ok, so he was wearing a mask, but it wasn’t pulled over his nose and mouth, which completely defeats the purpose of wearing one.
The person who came across the offending officer took a video of him, where only confused expressions instead of actual words were exchanged.
The video was uploaded to the Facebook page SG Dirty Fella and has garnered over 1,000 shares.
Surprisingly, some netizens rushed to the officer’s defence, saying he pulled his mask down to prevent his spectacles from fogging up.
This actually happens, by the way.

Another netizen questioned the person who took the video, asking why he couldn’t just tell the officer instead.
So, I guess all is forgiven, right? This attempt to shame the officer has failed miserab-
Police Investigating TP Officer Who Was Caught Not Wearing a Mask
Oh.
According to Stomp, the police are now investigating the TP officer in the video.
The police confirmed that all police officers are required to wear a mask when carrying out their duties, in compliance with circuit breaker measures.
“The TP officer in the video is being investigated for not wearing his mask properly,” they said.
As one netizen pointed out, it’s only fair that if citizens get punished for not wearing masks, then this man should too; the fact that he’s a TP officer is irrelevant.
Online Shaming
One has to ask though: what was the intention of uploading this video online? If the person who caught this officer not wearing his mask properly simply wanted him to be punished like everyone else, couldn’t he just send the photo to the police?
Clearly, the intention was to shame the officer for a mistake that anyone of us could have made.
If you see someone not wearing a mask or wearing it improperly, try doing this instead:
- Remind them to wear one
- If they refuse and you want to report them, snap a photo and report them through the OneService app
- If you have a video of the offender and are thinking of all the likes and laughing face emojis you’re going to get, try to empathise with the offender and watch a cute cat video compilation instead
Cat videos never hurt anyone.
