Popular Bangkok’s Chatuchak Market Will be Going Cashless with Air-con Toilet Soon

Well, this sucks.

Don’t get me wrong though, it’s nice to hear that Chatuchak Market will be receiving an upgrade of sorts. You know, better facilities, infrastructures and perhaps layout—you get the idea.

However, it would just be…different, wouldn’t it? I mean, don’t you think there’s some kind of charm walking through a local market(not that Chatuchak is a “market” that locals go to per se) and experiencing the local culture?

No? To each their own I suppose. I’m sure some of you would actually prefer air-conditioned pasar malam and cashless transactions.

According to the State Railway of Thailand(SRT), Chatuchak Market will be transformed into a cashless commercial area by June.

SRT’s director for land development, Siripong Preutthipan said that visitors will be able to pay for goods and services using their card or QR code.

SRT is also planning to build automated parking lots capable of accommodating 100 cars per lot. This project would cost around 40 million baht to build.

“The systems will comprise automated ticket dispensaries given out to vehicles as they enter,” Siripong Preutthipan said.

And if that wasn’t enough, get a load of this.

There have reportedly been plans to build air-conditioned toilets.

Toilets. With aircon. At Chatuchak market.

I mean, I can understand the need to upgrade the toilets. But wouldn’t it be better to increase the number of toilets than to make them air-conditioned?

Anyway, this is just me. But let’s take a look at how folks on the Thai Visa forum are reacting to the news.

…And the list goes on.

Well, some of them don’t seem too pleased with the new system either. But hey, looking on the bright side, at least something’s being done to improve Chatuchak Market!

Like it or not, this is probably going to happen. I have no idea if the new system will work out in the long run, but here’s to hoping for the best.

Since you’re here, why not watch a video about a guy who lodged a Police report here in Singapore because he was friendzoned? Seriously. Here, watch it and do remember to share it (and also subscribe to Goody Feed YouTube channel)!
