Just think about it: every franchise or chain, no matter how commercialised they are now, must have started from somewhere. At some point in time, at some place in the world, they opened their first shop. Yeah, even McDonald’s, the chain we’d have never expected to start from a store.

And for this indie cafe, their roots lie in Toa Payoh, and if you live around there, maybe you’re familiar with this facade.

And if you’re not, maybe it’s time to check it out before you miss your chance.

Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream and Coffee is an independent ice cream and coffee lifestyle cafe which has gained a massive following since their opening in 2011. They have since opened two other outlets, but it was at Toa Payoh where it all started.

So this announcement is indeed a somber one for the Creamier staff and their loyal neighbourhood customers.

Get ready for a dose of heartfelt sentimentally:

This post digs way back to the emotions of the staff as they opened Creamier for the first time. Starting from their vision of curating a “cosy space to enjoy moments of happiness”, they go on to talk about  the journey they’ve walked in Toa Payoh, and how they’ve progressed from “learning to scoop the perfect scoop of ice cream, to bake fresh waffles on irons heated to a searing 200°C, to pull a delicious shot of espresso”, all while maintaining the balance of efficiency and sincere hospitality.

They are also expressed their attachment to the vibrant community in Toa Payoh, and the bonds they have with old time customers, saying it’s the thing they’ll miss the most.

For those customers that they’re talking about, are your heart strings torn yet?

But enough nostalgia. Though no official reason was released, Creamier seems to be closing down due to some rental issues, but otherwise they are still hopeful of staying on in Toa Payoh. They would be closing on 30 June 2019.

According to The Straits Times, they were unable to renew their lease.

If you’re privy to any good spaces around the estate, let them know at [email protected].

A Reason to Visit Creamier

If not to say farewell/ pay your last respects to this organic cafe, Creamier is coming out with a special flavour to “commemorate our little heartland shop”.

It’s unknown what the flavour is: mala, perhaps? #justsaying

And for prospective fans, here are some of the existing flavours available: Black Glutinous Rice, Black Charcoal Sesame, Butterscotch Almond, Black Forest, Roasted Pistachio, with best sellers like Earl Grey Lavender and Sea Salt Gula Melaka.
