Throughout my entire childhood, I have avoided amusement park rides like the plague.
Why?
Two words.
Final Destination.
That movie series has made me deathly afraid of many things. I know I have a severe phobia of sunbeds, thanks to Final Destination 3.
That same movie also made me extremely wary of amusement park rides, particularly roller coasters and other high-element rides.
I’m not actually scared of the rides themselves.
I’m afraid of them failing.
What if the roller coaster skids off the tracks? What if the pendulum ride snaps in half?
If you’re like me, you might not be glad to find out that the second “irrational” fear I have is no longer so irrational.
Pendulum Ride In Ahmedabad Snaps In Half
On Sunday (14 July), an amusement park in Ahmedabad, India, probably just traumatised all the witnesses for life.
The circular pendulum-styled ride, which according to news sources, is highly popular with visitors.
It also broke in half in the midst of its swing.
And it was captured on video.
It all looks well and good, right?
Plenty of people in this amusement park, too.
Nothing could go wrong.
It was just another swing on the pendulum.
Oh no.
What in the world?
The pipe in the shaft holding the ride broke.
And it sent the people on the ride crashing into the ground.
(On the left of the photo, pardon the shaky cam of whoever recorded this, since he/she must have been shocked at the moment.)
Here’s the clip of the moment that made you go “OMG WTF”.

2 Dead & 26 Injured, Incident Under Investigation
This horrifying accident at the Kankaria Amusement Park left 2 unfortunate individuals dead and 26 injured.
M F Dastoor, the Chief Fire Officer of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, explained that the “the pipe of the main shaft broke”, causing it to “crash on the ground.”
As for how the pipe broke, he also said that it is currently being investigated by the Forensic Science Laboratory.
Well, the years I spent conquering my fears of going on amusement park rides have gone down the drain.
Back to avoiding them, I guess.
