People say Singapore has only two seasons: sunny and rainy.
That is true.
But we more than made up for it with our ever-changing seasons of food crazes.
The salted egg craze. The Raclette cheese craze.
And now, the bubble tea craze.
It’s like almost every other month, you’d hear about this new famous bubble tea place from Taiwan, China, etc setting up shop here in Singapore.
And the latest one here is the bubble tea chain, Xing Fu Tang
This popular bubble tea chain from Taiwan has just touched down in Singapore yesterday at Century Square.
And they started things off with a bang: 188 free cups of brown sugar boba drink.
Which is apparently their signature drink back in the land of pretty girls and OG boy bands.
A Childhood Memory of Founder
Edison Chen, the founder of the popular bubble tea chain, could remember his grandma leaving sugar on the stove for too long, leading to caramelised sugar.
And that was what inspired to create the signature drink of Xing Fu Tang.
Pearls Handmade In Store & Torched
Because everything tastes good when it’s torched, right?
People who’ve tried their drink said the tapioca pearls are chewier than most. These pearls are handmade within the store itself before being cooked in a wok.
When a drink order is made, the pearls and brown sugar syrup will be swirled in a cup. Then, they’ll add milk and cream.
And to finish things off, they put a thin layer of brown sugar before using a blowtorch on it for a smoky kick.
Mmmmm.

Other Types of Boba Tea
If you’re thinking this bubble tea chain’s going to be like Tiger Sugar, which mostly sells different variations of the brown sugar milk drink, think again.
Xing Fu Tang also has a strawberry boba tea.
And it’s pink, so if you think that pink is the new black, this drink’s probably for you.
Strawberry puree is mixed into the cream and comes with pink cactus pearls, which are easier to bite into.
Don’t be fooled by the strawberry label, though. They’re not as refreshing as you think, as do the strawberry workers in the workplace.

This drink’s pretty heavy (read: cream), but if you love strawberries, you might want to give this a shot.
And for those who love tangy stuff, you might want to give their Damascus rose lemon tea a shot.
Made with a rose tea base and lemon, this is the perfect pick-me-up on a hot sunny afternoon. Some say, even better than Coke, not zero.
Exciting Updates
Number one, good news for our Muslim friends: the chain is getting its halal certification soon, so you can join your non-Muslim friends in chasing after this fad.
And two, they’re going to be opening up a second outlet soon at Ngee Ann City, which means…?
Lesser queues!

And no more having to go all the way to the east for a cup of (probably good) bubble tea.
With that said, if you love queueing up, here’s where you can find Singapore’s only Xing Fu Tang outlet right now: #01-22, Century Square (Tampines)
