The Three Sets of Numbers Can No Longer Be Bought
For Singaporeans, birthday must buy 4D. Good exam results also must buy 4D. Even step on shit also must buy 4D.
So, of course, when it comes to the Presidential Elections vote count, must buy what? Must buy 4D lah.Â
Obviously, that was a thought at the forefront of everyone’s minds because those numbers are already sold out.Â
How Did the Candidates Fare?
After over a week of campaigning, the Singaporean populace has spoken—Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam will be the ninth President of Singapore.Â
At around 10:42 pm on 1 September 2023, the sample count results were released, indicating that Mr Tharman had a strong lead ahead of his opponents, with 70% of the votes.Â
The sample count revealed that Mr Ng Kok Song and Mr Tan Kin Lian had approximately 16% and 14% of the votes, respectively.Â
Associate Professor Eugene Tan from the Singapore Management University’s (SMU) School of Law called Mr Tharman’s vote share “mind-boggling,” as he was polling as well as he consistently did in General Elections for Jurong GRC.
When the sample count was released, the candidates exchanged phone calls, after which Mr Ng conceded defeat to Mr Tharman, and Mr Tan sent him his sincere congratulations.
At almost half past midnight, the official vote count was released, with Mr Tharman winning 70.4% of the total eligible votes.
Mr Ng received 15.72% of the votes, while Mr Tan received 13.88%.Â
At the very least, they can keep their S$40,500 deposit.Â
The Rush to Buy 4D Numbers
Following the results of the candidates, three sets of numbers were derived.Â
7040 for President Tharman, 1572 for Mr Ng and 1388 for Mr Tan.
Less than an hour after the official results were announced, the three sets of numbers were already unavailable for purchase.Â
Although I’m unsure why the numbers of those unelected could be treated as potential winning numbers, one can only dream, I suppose.Â
Ng Kok Song Gave 4D Numbers Too In a Previous Interview
At the start of the election process on 3 August 2023, 7545 emerged as the winning 4D combination.
Many attributed this to Mr Ng and his fiancee, Ms Sybil Lau’s, ages put together.
During an interview with the press on 5 August 2023, he jokingly offered up more sets of 4D numbers.
The numbers he gave were “5149”, “5248”, and “5347”, as he likened them to the potential voter margins during the elections.
Unfortunately for Mr Ng, these numbers would not be the ones Singaporeans were queuing to buy come 2 September 2023.
Regardless, now it’s time to wait and see if Mr Tharman’s numbers mirror reality and become the winning numbers for the few lucky individuals.
