Thinking of working out to get swole? Wishing you could have your own private gym so you can work out in peace, blast out your own music and scream and grunt in pain without being judged by others?
Man, have I got some good news for you.
Introducing The Gym Pod, Singapore’s first 24-hour gym container that provides you with the privacy you need for all your workouts.
How the idea of The Gym Pod sprouted
In a 4-minute long video, Damien Chow, founder of The Gym Pod, said that it started in 2018 with the idea of helping shy introverts (Yas, thank you!) like himself have a comfortable space to work out in.
He mentions that as someone who feels intimidated going to gyms filled with big muscular men, he has always wanted his own private space to workout and to experiment with different things he picked up online.
He further adds that The Gym Pod is great for beginners and intermediates who have just started on their fitness journey.
Apart from it being an introvert’s haven, The Gym Pod comes fully air-conditioned and loaded with excellent equipment.
According to the website, there are currently eight gym pods, all of which are conveniently located at:
- Ang Mo Kio Techplace 1
- Alexandra Technopark
- International Business Park
- JTC Launchpad @ Ayer Rajah
- Changi City Point
- Bishan – Ang Mo Kio Park
- Punggol Park
- Spin @ Changi City Point (for virtual spin classes only)
Do take note that while each gym pod has its own set of basic equipment such as dumbbells and treadmills, certain outlets will have more equipment than others.
For example, the pod at International Business Park contains an elliptical strider while the one at JTC Launchpad does not.
Some are also bigger than the others.
Booking
First off, you’ll need to download The Gym Pod app on the Apple Store or Google Play.
The next three steps are pretty simple:
- Select a gym pod
- Choose a time and date
- Complete payment
When you’re outside the pod, click the ‘Door Open’ button in the mobile app to unlock the private pod.
Voila! That’s all there is to having your own private gym for a couple of hours.
The Gym Pod offers two different kinds of pricing: pay-per-use and monthly plan. Users interested in the Monthly Plan can purchase it via the app.
COVID-19 Safety Measures
Everyone is incredibly strict when it comes to sanitation and The Gym Pod is no stranger to it as well. The Gym Pod has added safety measures including hospital-grade air sanitation and self-disinfecting equipment. The full list of measures can be read here.
A little something for Personal Trainers
This goes out to all freelance personal trainers out there who also want a private space to train their clients.
Interested PTs can learn more info about this service by simply filling up the form over here.
Overall, seems to me that this is a great way for people to train by themselves without worrying about others.
And also a great alternative for those who are unable to book any gym timings on the ActiveSG website.
