China Billionaire Offering SGD$1.73 Million to Find 4 People Who Attacked Him

Imagine coming out of a nightclub in Hong Kong after a night of merry-making only to be confronted with men armed with knives.

That was what mainland China billionaire, Qian Fenglei, faced on 14 Nov 2020.

Billionaire & Assistant Attacked By Three Armed Men

According to reports, the incident happened in the early hours of 14 Nov 2020 (Saturday).

Qian had just exited Dynasty Club on Harbour Road in Wan Chai when he and his assistant, 48-year-old Fang, were attacked.

A silver car drove up to them when they exited the clubhouse and three men, dressed in black and armed with knives, exited the vehicle and attacked them.

A fourth man was behind the wheel of the car.

The three men quickly jumped back into the vehicle after attacking for about five seconds and they fled successfully.

Assistant In Critical Condition

Qian’s driver managed to get the pair back to his mansion in the southern district before he called the police for help.

The pair were sent to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital.

Qian had slashes on his hands and thigh while his assistant, Fang, was in critical condition.

He reportedly suffered from multiple injuries to his left eye, head and back.

Police Investigating Triad Activities

A Hong Kong police anti-triad unit is assigned to the case to investigate the attack.

They were spotted conducting investigations and questioning individuals at the Dynasty Club.

The Dynasty Club at Wan Chai was founded in Dec 1989 and is known to be the hangout place for the rich and powerful.

The private club was even rumoured to host poker games organised by Hong Kong tycoons Joseph Lau and Cheng Yu-tung.

For those who are not in the know, Joseph Lau is a Hong Kong billionaire estimated to be worth $16.5 billion (~S$22 billion) by Forbes.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam also used the club as a base during her campaign for the election.

Qian, on the other hand, seems like he isn’t contented to leave the investigation to the police.

According to the Standard, the billionaire is now offering a HK$10 million (~S$1.73 million) reward to anyone who comes forward with information about the four suspects.

In an announcement published on the Sing Tao Daily, Qian alleges that the attackers are “of Chinese nationality”.

He promised that anyone who comes forward with reliable information or evidence, such as videos that capture a silver private car and its plate number, will be rewarded a “proportional amount”.

And if the person who provided reliable information is willing to testify and get the attackers convicted, he wouldn’t be opposed to negotiating a higher amount of money.
